There's a number of good Easter sequences set to this tune as well. This one, Ye sons and daughters, the original Latin "O filio et filiae" , O sons and daughters, and one I did a few years ago for Easter Sunday starts with, "O flock of Christ your homage bring"

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. O filii et filiae, Rex caelestis, Rex gloriae morte surrexit hodie. R. Alleluia Ye sons and daughters of the Lord, the King of glory, King adored, this day Himself from death restored. R. Alleluia Ex mane prima Sabbati ad ostium monumenti accesserunt discipuli. R. Alleluia All in the early morning gray went holy women on their way, to see the tomb where Jesus lay. R. Alleluia Et Maria Magdalene, et Iacobi, et Salome Venerunt corpus ungere R. Alleluia Of spices pure a precious store in their pure hands these women bore, to anoint the sacred Body o'er. R. Alleluia In albis sedens angelus praedixit mulieribus: In Galilaea est Dominus. R. Alleluia The straightaway one in white they see, who saith, "seek the Lord: but He is risen and gone to Galilee." R. Alleluia Et Ioannes apostolus cucurrit Petro citius, monumento venit prius. R. Alleluia This told they Peter, told John; who forthwith to the tomb are gone, but Peter is by John outrun. R. Alleluia Discipulis astantibus, in medio stetit Christus, dicens: Pax vobis omnibus. R. Alleluia That self-same night, while out of fear the doors where shut, their Lord most dear to His Apostles did appear. R. Alleluia Ut intellexit Didymus quia surrexerat Iesus, remansit fere dubius. R. Alleluia But Thomas, when of this he heard, was doubtful of his brethren's word; wherefore again there comes the Lord. R. Alleluia Vide Thoma, vide latus, vide pedes, vide manus, noli esse incredulus. R. Alleluia "Thomas, behold my side," saith He; "My hands, My feet, My body see, and doubt not, but believe in Me." R. Alleluia Quando Thomas vidit Christum, pedes, manus, latus suum, dixit: Tu es Deus meus. R. Alleluia When Thomas saw that wounded side, the truth no longer he denied; "Thou art my Lord and God!" he cried. R. Alleluia Beati qui non viderunt et firmiter crediderunt; vitam aeternam habebunt. R. Alleluia Oh, blest are they who have not seen their Lord and yet believe in Him! eternal life awaitheth them. R. Alleluia In hoc festo sanctissimo sit laus et iubilatio: benedicamus Domino. R. Alleluia Now let us praise the Lord most high, and strive His name to magnify on this great day, through earth and sky: R. Alleluia Ex quibus nos humillimas devotas atque debitas Deo dicamus gratias. R. Alleluia Whose mercy ever runneth o'er; Whom men and Angel hosts adore; to Him be glory evermore. R. Alleluia

I cry each time I hear this most beautiful hymn of Holy Mother Church. Our King was tortured for our sins and died and won us eternal life in the Risen Christ. How merciful and compassionate is our God, O Divine Mercy incomprehensible mystery.... how do I thank you for choosing us to follow you? Yes Lord my Christ my King I place myself and family and all on your precious yolk. Glory to the Trinity. Holy Mother let us keep faith with you... To Jesus thru Mary.

Why is this always performed so quietly? It's an ALLELUIA! It should be loud and blaring - triumphant and victorious! On the single day when there is never enough organ this hymn should shatter the windows and bring down the roof! Bring on the reeds! Bring on a brass choir!

This Allelluia is a very special allelluia. it is both joyful and sorrowful. it is joyful because the Lord has risen. but it is sorrowful because, it is still early dawn. the disciples are not yet aware of the resurrection and are grieving. it represents also humanity that is not aware of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and therefore do not have faith in him. that is why according to tradition, this alleluia is sung differently.

It's interesting how no matter how beautiful a song or video may be, there's always someone who puts a thumbs down... I don't get it. But I'm glad to see that we have many different religions here who enjoy the song!!! I don't think that it should matter which religion you (like others may think), nor do I believe that my religion is any better than anyone else's, I just love this song, and am glad to see that I'm not alone!!!

Hey, it's been 11 years, but just wondering if you still believe this? Jesus says He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that nobody can come to The Father except through Him (John 14:6). Essentially, repentance and faith in Jesus is the only way to heaven and to God. This may sound odd, but it is actually beautiful. God is Holy, and we are sinful, and deserve hell. But since Jesus died for our sins, and rose again, facing the punishment we deserved and coming out alive, we can be forgiven. We can escape hell because He faced it for us. This is why He is the only way, because He died and rose for us. This is why He is so worthy of all praise and love, because of His great love

Singing this in English is a crime against humanity.
@lurliemaddox80957 жыл бұрын
You would prefer that the people not understand the words that they are singing? As I am sure you are aware, the first celebration of the Eucharist was not in Latin, nor those in the first few centuries of the Church, but in the vernacular of the region. There are many "crimes against humanity" which have taken place and are still, but this is not one of them. I see no criminality in this, but only spirituality and beauty.
@jesusthroughmary7 жыл бұрын
It's a nonsensical argument to say that people don't understand what they're singing if it's in Latin. Any child knows what "Gloria in excelsis Deo" means.
@lurliemaddox80957 жыл бұрын
jesusthroughmary I'm quite sure that not every child (or adult) knows what "Gloria in excelcis Deo" means and there are quite a few more Latin words than those in this hymn and I also know it is futile to get in a discussion with one of your mindset. Musically, the hymn is beautiful in both English and Latin. The Didache was written in Greek. Peace and may God be with you!
@jesusthroughmary7 жыл бұрын
Don't translate hymns for the sake of translating them. Simply take a few minutes to learn what it means, but sing it in its original language.

I love this song. I prayed to marry Jesus Christ when I was 21 and I saw Him three days later standing at the foot of my bathtub in a long white robe as I was bathing. A priest told me I was a nun. I believe strongly I may have been Mary Magdalene in my past life

Every religion has its truths, as our church teaches
@jeremywhitaker49805 жыл бұрын
The Church, as an institution, most certainly does not teach that. Dissenting and/or poorly formed bishops have suggested as much, but their suggestions are out of continuity with infallible Church dogma, thus it is not binding. It can't be binding.
