I also live nearby of Porta Romana and I often go to that Esselunga. My school every year used to do the Model United Nations in Bocconi and every day I would go to that café and have breakfast. Sadly this year because of the pandemic we can't do much. I hope we'll get back to normal soon. Love ya from Milano❤️❤️

This is my city i am born here, life is good if u come to study with your family's money but if u try to study and work and live you can't. Milano is the most expensive city in Italy you can't afford by yourself U need someone to take care of u. There is not a good balance between rent and salary. U get 1200/1300 avarage salary and u pay 600/700 for a room. Anyways the city is nice to visit😂

I found the academic system in Bocconi too rigorous (in terms of the emphasis on memorisation and theory) but watching this video makes me miss the vibe so much. The incredibly international crowd, great food and constant aperativi - I miss it. Had to leave after a year or two but I miss the lifestyle I had there sooo much,
@alessiar3260 Жыл бұрын
can you expand on the academic system being too rigorous? I thought the English courses would be less based on theory and more on practice
@bernadettosvay-szabo762010 ай бұрын
I was thinking of attending bocconi, but I have been leaning more towards other countries. Could you tell me if there was a lot of emphasis put on mathematics as even the bocconi test is full of such tasks.

Hi Lenny, I saw your videos a long time ago when you were still in Italy and right before I was about to go to university in Bologna. Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience in my international program there and decided to leave, but there are still so many fond memories I hold from that time. I was just curious how you felt about the Italian university system, especially the oral exams. As an American, we are not at all trained in this and I felt like my classmates (primarily Italian!) had such a great advantage over me, even if I'm a native English speaker. Also, being a language nerd, I was way more interested in improving my Italian (I'd been studying it myself for 2 years prior, since my boyfriend is Italian) than studying for my course... yeah, that's when I realized I was in the wrong field... :) Sometimes I wish I had just stayed the full two years to see how much better my Italian would be by now. How was your experience learning the language while attending an international course? Even though I studied in English I preferred to speak Italian with my classmates. Sorry for the long comment, hope you are well!
@lenny.winter3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience and I’m sorry it was not great ☹️ To your questions: Italian school system - it is tough! Italian students had a clear advantage as that is the system they were used to, but it is doable Oral exams - I was in the international course and I think we had like 2? It was very insignificant in my experience that I don’t even remember how it went Language - to be honest I was very much in an international bubble so my Italian was actually terrible. I improved it a lot after leaving Italy actually 😂 I do think it would’ve contributed a lot to my experience if I spoke proper Italian, but like I said, studying and trying to get a job was hard enough so that really was not my focus. Especially as I didn’t see any work opportunities there for after I graduate
@carolinesrensen72183 жыл бұрын
Hi, i'm thinking about studying at the university in Bologna. Could you explain what you mean by the different university system regarding oral exams? I'm just curious as i'm still deciding exactly which university i want to go to.
@topotondo8283 жыл бұрын
@@carolinesrensen7218 Hi Caroline, it may depend on what program you decide to study in Bologna, but in general the Italian university system requires students to give oral exams to pass their courses instead of written exams. What this meant was on the day of the exam, students sit in a room and are one at a time called up to the front of the room to sit before the professor (and an assistant) and you are asked questions on the material of the course. Personally, I was humiliated as I was asked a question on a lecture I missed and was not able to answer fully (I still think the professor remembered that I was absent that day). At the end, the professor gives you a score (passing is 18, highest score is 30 and there is 30L, trenta e lode, which is like an A+ and can give a variable amount of extra points to your grade). In my opinion these scores/evaluations are completely arbitrary and the testing is not equal for every student. As I said in my previous comment, I felt at a disadvantage because the program was an "international" one (at least that's what it was called), and the majority of my classmates were Italians who grew up in this educational system learning how to take oral exams. They knew how to "talk around" the answer, how to direct the discourse in their favor if they did not know the answer flat out. For me, that kind of felt like lying or cheating, so I told the professor I didn't know how to answer. Being an English speaker didn't really seem that much of a benefit to me when I was the one who embarrassed themself in front of all the students. :) Anyway, I hope my experience doesn't discourage you, a big part of the reason I did not enjoy my studies was the organization of the program/quality of instruction, and I also found out I was not studying what I was truly passionate about. Maybe if I was going for a degree in my passion, being taught by professors of a high caliber, I would have been able to look past the oral exams. Best of luck on whatever you decide to pursue!
@manu13763 жыл бұрын
@@topotondo828 As an Italian, I have to say reading your comments left me kinda confused. I mean, oral exams are a fundamental part of the education system in Italy, and I know a few other European countries take oral exams as well. Here in Italy, when we decide to do a study program abroad, we have to be informed about how things might change in terms of learning methods in the host country. When you chose to study here, weren't you told about how exams would be oral and written?
