Hello...Do you find that the subjects for Language arts work together? For instance, is a spelling word is also used in the reading/phonics course or in handwriting for the week?

I have not noticed that those things merge together. I have used most of the components of LA, just not handwriting. The concepts taught may not line up perse, but it is all extremely well laid out and systematically done. It doesn't give a choppy/incohesive feel at all just because things are repeated across subjects. I will say that they do often use the same characters in stories and lesson demos/illustrations. So there is some little bit familiarity....but not lesson content.

I’m considering buying this distance learning subject for my kids. Can you tell me if the video portion included enough instruction? I’m hoping it’s not just the teacher saying “do page X in the workbook” without teaching about the topics on page X.

There is a 10 minute or so lesson :) The teacher does games, teaches the spelling rule and does all different types of practice with the word lists. She also gives the 3 tests each week. There are also special features with puppets and using the dictionary etc. You don't have to do any extra teaching unless your child needs it. I haven't had to do a thing but get the video running and check the tests :)

do you need to use the videos or can you just do the workbook on it's own?

Does the spelling correlate with the reading and phonics? Do they have spelling words that that go along with the types of words they are learning to read in the phonics portion for bju?
