I had mine at 13, as you do. Typically in 21st century secular yet Jewish Israel, you have two celebrations, one in the synagogue where you read a part of the Torah and some smaller part of a later book and then the people there throw candy at you, and it can hurt. The second part is a party with your friends and family. I had a good time during my Bar Mitzvah.
