@@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska we live in Jerusalem, Israel. Our airports were often closed since March 2020 so we could not see family or get American items. Many foods are expensive here, although basic vegetables and fruits in season are reasonably priced. Items that are shipped are heavily taxed and take a long time to get here. Dates and olives are better here so that’s a compensation!

Oooof you got stuck doing this during our big heatwave yikes! Do you come down on the Ferry into Bellingham?
@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Quite an adventure lol. For our family it is less expensive to fly to Seattle from Juneau, so we do not take the ferry. It would be a fun adventure sometimes though if we had extra time.

@@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska I live in Bellingham and we have thought about camping on the ferry deck and making the trek up one of these days. We went to Juneau and Skagway on a cruise 2 years ago and I fell in love with the area.

That’s so cool you guys are in Seattle area I’m from here and I have been wanting to ship items to anchorage this seems like a good idea can you tell me what shipping company you used? Thanks!

Hi! The only barge line that goes to Kake is AML ( Alaska Marine Lines ). I think there might be a couple other ones that go to Anchorage. Hopefully it works out for you.

How much does each box cost to put on the barge? Like the big ones you put the bikes and totes into?!
@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska3 жыл бұрын
The barge charges by weight. The prices will be in the next video :)

Fresh fruits and veggies how do you get them ?
@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska3 жыл бұрын
We have them flown in. The barge takes to long without it being refrigerated.

Why no bags for the groceries

Do you mean, reusable bags? Costco never uses bags because most things are to big.

Sustainable homesteading in the future?

We hunt and fish for about 90% of our meat, we gather berries and have a garden. I don’t think we will ever have the time or desire to do everything ourselves. We would not be able to do other things we love, like travel.
