I’ll never complain about my grocery shopping trip to town again. I’m only 20-25 minutes from town so I can mine done in 2-3 hours which includes a lunch break. Never been on a 2 day grocery shopping trip before. Your bonus is you get to live in Alaska I don’t

I could maybe guess at how much of some things we would need for a year, but when it comes to snacks like chips, even the super size bags you get at Costco would go pretty quickly. I applaud your ability and willingness to live frugally in order to finance these trips. I am sure it takes a great deal of meal planning and substitutions to stretch the food as far as possible. Thanks for taking us along on your trip.
@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska2 жыл бұрын
I am glad you get it. Some people act like they never eat snacks. We definitely have to stretch them out. Eventually we will run out. If we travel, thats usually something we buy when we are out of town.

I love the camping on deck! Everyone ´s situation is different. With the shipping prices of the barge before and the ferry seem quite reasonably priced and efficient. Even on the mainland, in a Capitol city, I have an annual shipping budget for Amazon prime & weekly local produce delivery. Aldi has very tasty Organic GF pasta for $2/ lb. Costco no longer carries it. If you have an Aldi in AK or Seattle an annual pasta haul would run about $3-$4 a pound with barge shipping. If that would help you out any. They also have other great GF foods, baking mixes at $3-$4 plus barge, so about $3.50-$5 a box with barge. A Seattle Asian grocery would be great for rice noodles, ramen, and bulk spices. The rice might be less expensive too. Just if it helps! All the best ❤

You make it look so easy shopping for 6months or a year, must take some planning and saving, I couldn’t imagine having to do it. My supermarket is only five mins down the road. During the pandemic I did a lot of bulk buying so I reduced the amount of time going out, I now have lots of stock in, not much space to keep it, but it’s a comfort knowing I will not run out soon. You always look happy while you do your massive shop, I’ve noticed that shopping in the smaller towns in Alaska is very expensive compared to where you shop. Really enjoyed seeing your Happy shopping trip. Xxx
@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska2 жыл бұрын
Space is definitely a consideration when doing these big shopping trips. People always say we didn’t buy enough, but we only have so much room. We don’t have a basement to put things, like a lot of bulk buyers.

May I suggest making brown sugar from scratch? Simply mix with a beater plain white sugar with molasses (1 cup sugar: 1 or 2 tablespoons of molasses). The amount of molasses determines whether you get light or dark brown sugar. Way cheaper than buying brown sugar plus on your large grocery haul you just have to buy bags of sugar along with usually one bottle of molasses. Hope that this works for you, 😉.

New subscriber here having been awake since about 3.00am (now almost 6.00am) here in the UK and randomly scrolling through KZbin when I came across this vlog. Very random even for me but saw all the red hair and decided to watch, lol. I don't see many red heads on KZbin recommended stuff and hubby and youngest daughter are red heads and we have to stick together!! Had no concept that people have to shop like you do in this video, I moan about my once a week trip to Aldi but will never moan again. I think we have several Costco stores in the UK now but we've never used them, maybe we should as it looks like you can get anything and everything. Anyway, going to watch some of your previous videos to catch up and then I'll understand why grocery shopping is like this for you. We recently moved and when we got here we asked where the Costco was ... 8 hours away in Winnipeg Manitoba! I was used to going at least twice a week. I haven't been in 10 months. I order online and they have great delivery service, always within a few days we get our order. It is just not the same as shopping in -store as there are a lot of items you can't get on-line.
