Started mining operating the 777b haul trucks. Three years ago, with no experience starting salary at 40hr week was $62k. Not including overtime, holiday, bonuses, etc. Got into drilling now making $120k. 40hr new miner certification, and 80 hrs training. If the mine doesn't sign you off(certification you on the equipment withing that time, you're done.). Constant training afterwards, and your life as haul truck operator depends solely on the dozer operator managing the dump. What you know: it's not that easy. Opportunities are scarce, you're only guaranteed a job as long as the mine is active, and you'll be lucky to live within an hour of the mine site. Most times you'll be bussed to the mine. Little sleep on rotating day/night schedules. Anyone can do it, but it's not for everyone.

This is spot on in case anyone is wondering. Our pay scale is a little different. Everyone makes 75-100k regardless of what machine you operate. It’s based on time. Degrees even put you in the same bracket but you work less.

There is a company in Western Australia that pays $173000au per year to drive dump truck… plus $20000 in bonuses. But the company usually does well and surpasses targets so you usually get a higher bonus than that. You obviously get taxes but you clear around $135000 per year and have time off every two weeks. Say what you want about this job but if you do it for 5 years it can really help your life with a good plan.

Very few opportunities with just offroad dump truck driving. You will need a CDL and at least 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment to get a job then at least 5-10 years before you make 80k

Most mining companies in Nevada will hire almost anyone to do this job. $30+hr with built in over time. No cdl required.

We work 10hr shifts Mon-Fri, but sometimes when production needs to ramp up to meet a goal, we do 6-12’s, but again, in San Diego. 10 minutes to the nearest town and 20-25mins to the beach. We’re hourly and last year I did $102k but only worked about 9 months. Most guys do $120k-$130k/year plus full Medical/Dental/Vision/Pension. They’ll toss an apprentice in one and he’ll make close to $100k in his first year!

In Australia In New South Wales , luck of the draw when you apply , thousands try and get in and only 9 in my class when I got in , traineeship is 80K then experienced is 105K then if offered a company shirt is $154+ bonus , further north bengalla in Muswellbrook just signed for 205K and it’s only 2 weeks of class room training then 2 weeks of 789/793 training and your good to go , no heavy Vehicle experience needed then after 9 months get a turn on the big boys , 797F and I get to go home everyday , 12.5hr shifts 5 on 5 off , best life style job !

Its not about the money for me ots the time off. 2/2 ( weeks) i fly to asia every 2 weeks for two weeks holiday. The 2 weeks on is hard but the 2 weeks off rox. Also, if you use your anuual and sick leave and take 2 weeks, you get 6 weeks off ever quarter.

Here in the US, that’s only if you fall under an MSHAW Contract. I run a 777G for Local 12 Operating Engineers in San Diego, CA. We work 10hr shifts Mon-Fri, but sometimes when production needs to ramp up to meet a goal, we do 6-12’s, but again, in San Diego. 10 minutes to the nearest town and 20-25mins to the beach. We’re hourly and last year I did $102k but only worked about 9 months. Most guys do $120k-$130k/year plus full Medical/Dental/Vision/Pension. Got in as an apprentice and ran haul trucks within a few months with NO training other than a few runs with another Journeyman riding shotgun for 1 day to show me the ropes.

@@Sir_MaxD Yeah, it depends on what the contract falls under (OSHA or MSHAW) as to whether or not you have to have a Miner’s card. What separates the 2 is one must be SELLING their product, versus hauling with the intent to build something. So, coal or gold, would fall under MSHAW, whereas we were moving rock/dirt to make pads for housing tracts. The $18/hour sounds like either it was 1965, or you worked for a SHITTY employer. I believe it though, because I made $28/hour Non-Union with zero benefits.
