Good to see your re-review of the Pelikan 805. I’ve had the 800 (same pen, gold trim) for a couple of years, and I have the same experience that you talk about. When I ink it up (it’s the blue stripe one,so generally Kon-Peki or Velvet Blue) and write with it, I say, “Why did I wait so long to use this pen again?” It is the right weight for me; sort of large hands - I post the cap. A thoroughly delightful pen. Yes, the most expensive one in my collection (I sold the MB 149). I’m also in Toronto, BTW. Thanks for your videos!

Every time I hear "expensive" for a Pelikan, especially from the M Serie with gold nib, I must lough, thinking of all the Visconti, Montegrappa, Aurora, Leonardo and co, with the converters and their steel nibs... Do you know, that you can send your pen to Pelikan and they fix/ground/switch the nib for you for free? And thank you so much, I love the "years later" videos .

I have the Red striped M800 B. It’s the new one from this year and they still made it with the see through body. I heard they were making the change too. I picked up an M1000 M this month and I know you would love it. The pen is extremely juicy. The M on the 1000 is thicker than the B on the 800. Loving the videos in this series.

Love the video, Kerri. I just bought my first Pelikan, a pre-owned M800 F, a week ago. The pen just feels right. I also had it reground at the time by The Toronto Pen Company to a cursive italic with slightly sharp corners. Wow. What a beauty!

I have the Classic series M205 petrol-marbled special edition with an extra fine nib. Since it's a small pen I need to post it. I have a hard time resisting any pens that are teal colored. 🤩

Great video. My M805 Stresemann is also my favorite pen, but, like you, I also don’t use it as much as I should. Maybe it is because it is bigger and nicer, so I don’t risk taking it out as much. I also got a Fine that wrote more like a medium, but Mike Masuyama turned it into a fine stub/italic, and it is unquestionably the best writer in my collection. Grail acquired!!

I have the Pelikan M205 moonstone, a solid performer but very small. I have been fortunate enough to find a couple Pelikan M800 at a pretty reasonable price (used). I have the brown stripes and the solid black sovereign .If I could only pick a single pen from my collect it would be one of these pens! AMAZING performers.

Love this video. I too have this same pen but with an extra fine nib also a m200 Smoky quartz, m600 red striated barrel, a m100 stormtrooper and last but not least a m1000 with a fine nib . This pen glides like a Cadillac's suspension and is a good size for people with arthritis. Also have a jumbo pack of jinhao 159s with Goulet fine & extra fine nibs. I have others but these are the 2 brands of pens I use the most. You can have the montblancs you're just paying for the snowcap on the finial anyway. Can hardly wait for you to do a video on the new jinhao X159.

I have an M400 green tortoiseshell from the turn of the century that I got used in a little pen shop. I am happy with it, even though the EF is not fine enough for my taste. However, I would like Pelikan to know that I would never buy a piston filler whose ink level I could not see!
@archivist172 жыл бұрын
I agree! Why on earth would you not include an ink window, let alone remove one that was already there!

Thanks for this. I just ordered this with the Fine nib. I was worried if I should have elected for Medium. After watching this I’m glad I went for the Fine!

I recently got the M605 Black Tortoiseshell and although most of the body isn't translucent, if you hold it up to the light there is an ink window in the same spot as on the solid black M605, so I think Pelikan still have the ink window, just not the whole barrel and it's a little more opaque. It's more than adequate to check the ink level, just can't do it quite as quickly.

I love the x05 series, as that beautiful shiny silvery chrome look is done really well, and complements the colour choices excellently well. I donaspire to owning an 805, but it's a fair way down The List, so I'd need a substantial windfall before that comes to pass. In the meantime, I can enjoy watching you enjoy it.

I noticed that the m800 writes with zero line variation, like you mentioned. Was surprised. Lacks character and feels like I am writing with a roller ball. Curious why this could be a good thing. Legit question. I really wanted to love this pen, love the idea of owning a Pelikan and it's damn beautiful.

The correct pronunciation for Stresemann: strey-suh-mon. Gustav Stresemann was a German Chancellor in the early 20s. I have many Pelikans, some of them special editions. For example, I own two Pelikan SE M640s, the Mount Everest, and the Niagara Falls. The M640s are unusual designs, in that they are bulged in the middle. Of the striped variety, I prefer the green stripes, although I also have red, blue, and golden brown ones. I always buy Pelikans with F nibs because their M ones write too broadly for me. I don't own a Stresemann because the grey stripes don't appeal to me, and I prefer gold trim. Regarding Pelikans: They have a deserved reputation for well-made quality pens. One of the things I especially like about them is that the nibs unscrew. That feature makes the pens especially easy to clean; remove the nib, and flush the ink reservoir. Some pen enthusiasts consider non-piston fill pens with disdain, but I don't, because cartridge/converter pens are easy to clean, and many of them come in beautiful designs that are well worth owning.

I wonder if the color has an impact on frequency of use? If it were the green, blue, or red do you think you would use it more?

Great video. I just managed to get a new M805 with the translucent body. It's getting very hard to find since Pelikan has switched to the opaque.

Your nib is honestly weird for an F size. I own an M805 and two M200/M205, all in F size. Not only they all have the exact same width but they are true to what you can expect from an F European nib. Nothing like an M or B. I don't know how much pressure you put on the pen when you write though. I write with Pilot ink in mine (Iroshizuku Ama Iro) and the pen is not wet at all. At the contrary, it dries within seconds, very handy when you have to flip paper sides with almost no transition. In a previous video I also heard you say that your m805 had the same size than an M200 🤨 They are not at all the same size, the M800, capped, is at least 2cm longer. Sure you got a German one ? 😉

What? Pelikan no longer translucent? Big bummer... I should have bought this m600 I was about to buy three years ago. Now part of the charm is gone, for a long time if not forever. In hesitating between Sailor vs. Pelikan, Sailor gained points.
