I have 12, two of which are cheap ones from Amazon, one was a recent gift from a friend, and eight of them are glass dip pens that I ordered from Japan. I find glass dip pens from Japan to be extremely well made - it really is like a form of art! I primarily use my glass dip pens to swatch different inks and also for my shimmer inks. I'm one of those people who do not like using any shimmer inks in actual pens so having a glass dip pen allows me to use them without the work of cleaning feeds. My tip for anyone who wants to use glass dip pens with shimmer inks without having to constantly shake up the bottle: decant a small amount of ink into a ceramic watercolor palette well for use with your glass dip pen. Have a toothpick or coffee stirrer on hand to stir the ink and mix up the shimmer again once in a while.

My first glass dip pen was scatchy. I was told that you can smooth it with sandpaper (1000). It worked for me.

I’d be scared to ruin the nib

I have 6 different glass dip pens...i use them for sketching and occasionally just for writing if I'm writing something short. I too have use sand paper to smooth but I use 2500 grit. Each of my pens have a different feel - the thickness will vary, the weight will vary, and the tip will vary. I enjoy the pens and use one at least once every other week or so. Not nearly as often as my fountain pens but enough to have fun. I recommend one for anyone who enjoys a fountain pen experience. It's similar to that experience but still different. Thanks for the video, it was helpful.

I only use my glass dip pen (also purchased from Goulet Pens) for ink swatches. If it ever broke I'd probably get the Kakimori Metal Dip Pen.

That is a very beautiful pen. I have a very simple one, as I recognise I rarely use it except for ink swatching.

Thanks for your demo of the glass dip pen. I too purchased one from Goulet Pen Company and wondered what to do with it. Signing Holiday cards is a great idea.

As far as the nib wearing down or chipping after an impact or something that otherwise damages the writing point, you can use a VERY fine CARBIDE stone (I recommend 1000 grit or finer) to actually sand down , or "dress," that glass point.

Fun video today! Thank you! Your silly start was a chuckle. Thanks for that!

I have one glass pen and one dip pen with a steel nib that is not a callligraphy pen. I use each one occasionally, just as you do. And I just got a bunch of samples so I need to dig them out out wherever I carefully put them away!

Wonderful demonstration of a glass dip pen Kerry. I have normal dip pens but am thinking about getting one of those one day perhaps. They can be beautiful, but brittle.

I've been eyeing up a glass pen at a local store. I don't expect that I will use it a lot, but they look like fun.

I have only one, an expensive one from P.R.o.C. and it used for swatching ink from ink sample bottles.

I just let a bit of shimmer hangout in the pen. I don't clean it differently than normal ones. the small bits of shimmer don't really seem to affect the next ink much for me I wanna try an ultrasonic cleaner tho

I have the blue and white version of the same glass dip pen and I can't get it to behave even halfway as well as what you're demonstrating here. I can write with it but even a very cautious dip tapped off against the side of the bottle starts super wet, and I have a very hard time catching the right angle for writing. I don't know if it needs some kind of adjustment or if I'm misunderstanding something in all the instruction videos I've seen XD

The Goulet Company doesn't carry that pen with the spiral nib and the great color all the way down now. The single one they have has a straight groove pattern and the body is covered with cross hatching. Not at all as lovely as the one you have.
