@@Lexi2015-f You are correct. “Yebba has been an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness and support. Her mother died by suicide about a week after Yebba sang her first original song, causing "My Mind" to take on new meaning representing mental health. She says her artist name was chosen to honor her mother, who she said "always called her by the nickname" (her name Abbey written backwards) as a child. In memory of her mother, Yebba gave the song away free through her website.[17][18]”

This song wasn’t written for her personal relationship. It was written on behalf of her mom. Her dad was unfaithful to her mom and this song tells that story. And her mom passed after this performance, not before. Please research before commenting.

Thank you so much Yebba. I kissed my daughter for the last time at midnight on march 11 2024, as the brought her to the donor surgery. Hers was the first success double transplant surgery in the history of Greenville. She was an artist, musician, vocalist, songwriter and her organs went to another singer! I was entertaining the next day on the 12th by 5 pm. I am grateful that you shared that information about her journey and its connection to this performance- I see myself more clearly now, in light of of this beautiful precious loved soul, to keep going like that. If Yebba and her mom had a relationship like Courtney’s and mine- we were EACH others number one fan in all things, and I bet they did, then I intimately understand the loss. God bless you Yebba, darling girl!

Yebba was born Abigail Smith and went by Abbey for short up until her mom’s passing. She then got her name legally changed to Yebba. Yebba, notably Abbey spelt backwards was a nickname given to her by her mom. I absolutely broke down when I learned this. I empathize with her loss as I have also lost loved ones to suicide. I can’t get through listening to My Mind without sobbing. Her pain is so real. An actual masterpiece. Perfection caught on camera. I’m so very grateful for her. She’s helped me and I know many others by being open with her grief.

For those commenting about the context of this song: This song was written about the infidelities of her father. It’s not about her own personal relationships. Her did pass away to suicide but it was sometime AFTER this performance. Her mom was a science teacher and her dad was a preacher.

This song is hit me like no other when I first heard it. There aren’t to many songs that I fall for instantly when I first hear it. My husband left and moved on with another woman, a man I so deeply loved and tried my all to be everything he needed and more. I feel lost, and misunderstood. However, Yebba, said everything I was feeling and everything that I needed to hear. Thank you so incredibly much for sharing your talent and gift of music with the world. I look forward to listening to more… Sending love and light to all who truly relate to every word this beautiful being has sung. Cause it will get better. ❤☀️❤☀️❤

This song is literally a sonic representation of the anger, despair, confusion, grief, and pain of a true broken heart. PLEASE don’t ever apologize for being emotional. It is something that humanity is so sorely lacking and very much needed ❤ This performance was actually a week before her mother committed S. After her mother died it took on a new meaning and, as a tribute to her mother Yebba released it on her website for free - bringing awareness to mental health. She also adopted the nickname that her mom called her- YEBBA( ABBEY backwards). Her single EVERGREEN is about her mom. And her album DAWN was named after her as well.Songs like October Sky, How Many Years and others are about her mother. I have been watching Yebba perform this since 2018/9 , hundreds of times ( no cap) and it is still gut wrenching and brings me to tears. Yebba is a vocal gymnast and I hope you listen to her Tiny Desk Concert and BOOMERANG Live

I think she lost her mom a week after... But idk. What I do know is that she is almost as good of a writer and “emoter“ as she is a vocal architect. She's too young during this performance to really understand the pain in the situation she's singing about. Maybe it's from her mom's perspective... Listen to paranoia purple.
