Ro RhoRowurboat Hi! So actually she wrote the song a week before her mom passed away from suicide and her mom and best friend were actually the first ones to hear the song. Her song “Evergreen” was written as a tribute to her mom...video actually sang in her home church in Arkansas. Yet another beautiful song! YEBBA’s vocals are amazing! She totally deserved the Grammy she won! Hopes this was helpful! :)

Can't stay in such a situation, but never going to completely leave. Especially without putting up a fight. Edit: but if you think in terms of her late mother, maybe it's her saying she doesn't want to stay here without her but she can't leave this Earth either just yet. Or maybe that part was purely for the romantic relationship aspect that the song expresses.🤷🏾‍♀️
@jacquin.799
@jacquin.799 4 жыл бұрын
It’s so great because it can be interpreted in so many ways! What it meant to me was “I sho won’t stay” - I’m checking out mentally and emotionally “But I’ll be damned if I ever leave” - I refuse to physically leave! We’re gonna be here miserable together. You don’t get to be happy with another woman

What she does with this song is so important. Not only does she expose the pages of her emotional diary, but she also builds that emotion in a way that draws you in. She steps up the level again and again and when you think she has hit the peak she steps it up again and again. Each step pulls you in further and further as she exposes the passionate layers of her heart that is broken. She defines what it means to be screaming out in beautiful agony...

I also sound like a dying cat when I belt out that part of the song... I said that I CANnot belt it out, not that I SHOULD not belt it out. she lost her mom to suicide about a week before this performance. it brings even more heartbreak to this song. there were parts where she just sounded like the deepest sobs of desperation. she’s an incredible singer and her vulnerability on stage is unreal.

She ripped out her soul out & left it bleeding on the stage. It was awesome, yet painful. You should check out her duet with Clark Beckham for their cover of the John Mayer song Gravity.

All the way over here in the UK, it’s past midnight and I’m in my bed listening to this for about the eighth time. I was doing okay until you said “Somebody hurt that girl” and that was it, the tears fell. And fell every damn time I watched it. There’s something magical about this performance. So raw and powerful. This must resonate with everybody who’s been cheated on (yes, me included). Stunning.

Melancholy... She is feeling and living EVERY word of that song as she's singing it. It could be that she's reliving an experience OR she's simply putting herself in that woman's place. EXCELLENT! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

There are times when the artist is inspired and then writes. Then there are times when the artist experiences something and then writes about it to release the pain, joy, sadness, gladness. She is also vocally equipped to paint the picture. That's impact.
