Classic! Shut the door! Awesome! Glad Yedo came out on Kickstarter in 2020.

Yes, but there are two different systems for converting the Japanese word into English. One yields 'Edo' and the other yields 'Yedo'...but both refer to the same thing. 'Edo' tends to be the more commonly used form, and is closer to the Japanese word.

There are actually many different romanization systems used for japanese (Hepburn is the most common these days for English, but JSL is also used in a number of places). I believe Yedo/Yeddo were from the second version of Hepburn romanization, which is now considered obsolete (but does make a convenient fall-back if you want to publish a game about pre-Meiji Tokyo and 'Edo' is already taken)

The game is very interesting, but I never play the game with any serious intent to try my best to win like I would when I play Puerto Rico or Agricola. The game just has too many factors just completely out of my control that I can't even prepare for. The action cards can really mess you up. Some of the action cards force other players to discard their mission cards or purple cards. I've had a purple card I've had since the start of the game get discarded near the end, a play that alone set me so far back, I could not do anything about it and could not recover. The blue event cards are purely random and can completely ruin any plans you've made or completely devastate you. One card, the earthquake, makes everybody lose an annex and a meeple, which completely screws you. Another card makes everybody lose half their cash. Those ones are kind of okay though since they hurt everybody, but some blue events close districts off, and it's incredibly frustrating when you can't complete a mission because a blue card randomly closed off an area you need to be in (especially when it's the last turn of the game). The mission cards are really annoying because of the weapons. Collecting 4 weapons for a mission and then drawing a hand full of missions that require completely new weapons is incredibly irritating, especially in a three player game where chances are nobody will be willing to give you a weapon you need. Anyways, I'm done ranting. It's fun, but I always feel a little sad after playing. Even if I win, I often feel like it was less from my own skill and more from other players and the game itself not screwing me over as much as other players.

To follow up on the pronunciation issue... I think using a long 'e' would work for this game (Yedo): E-do And you could use a short 'e' for the other game with the similar name (Edo): Edo

You must know something the designers don't. They even admit that while publishers are trying to get US distribution nothing is official so I doubt it gets US distribution very soon.

Except Lord's of Waterdeep doesn't have any bidding. Also, you don't get to necessarily chose the difficulty level of your missions or (quests). Plus, Waterdeep doesn't have event cards. But, other than that they're similar. :)

Would you say Yedo is still a very good game in these days?

This is still good. In fact it's great! Lords of Waterdeep on steroids! Has bidding, has turn order mechanics, has player item trading and occasional randomness to prevent nerdy math brained individuals

Because his kids will leave the door open when they open the door to look. They leave and don't close it. He would then yell "shut the door!" so the background noise from the kids wouldn't be a part of the video. :D

Yedo/Edo are just two different ways of romanizing (translating) the Japanese word/name into the roman alphabet. Edo is closer to the actual Japanese pronunciation, as far as I understand. I guess by using the Yedo spelling the company can set this game apart from the recent board game called 'Edo.'

Why don't you remove something out of Ghost Stories to make it not too much "into your face gamers"? :) It really reminds Lords of Waterdeep, but more fiddly and more complex. It does make it more thematic and makes it stand out. Maybe they added those event cards to make it more of a challenge comparing to LoW. For hardcore worker placement gamers :)
