"Feels like Faith is Buffy's darker shadow self." I'm trying to remember but I thought there was a behind the scenes discussion about exactly this and like Kendra being the opposite. Obviously don't look it up who knows what they'll talk about otherwise.

At 6:23 you mention that you find Wesley "kind of cute", well so did Alyson Hannigan (Willow) - she married the actor who plays Wesley in 2003. Alexis Denisof was reluctant to begin a relationship with Hannigan due to their age difference, but she eventually overcame his objections and today they have two daughters. From 2006-2014 Denisof would appear as an occasional guest star on "How I Met Your Mother", which starred Hannigan.

@@sirmoonslosthismind When Denisof joined the cast in 1998, he was 32 and Hannigan was 24. Not a big deal in my mind, but apparently it was significant to him. In addition, he was wary of dating a co-worker - which is definitely a valid reason for caution, based on personal experience 😬

In a later interview Eliza admitted that she presented the lesbian subtext on her own initiative. As far as I remember Whedon only noticed it when fans pointed it out to him.

2 or 3 of the other writers were enthusiastic about lesbian subtext with Faith and Buffy... but Whedon never intended that with Buffy and Faith. I had to remove another sentence here because I realized that, while it wasn't an obvious spoiler, it could give Sofie a sense of what the future holds... therefore... spoilerY.

Very unintentional subtext though as it was never even an afterthought to joss. Joss Whedon didn't even believe it when he heard fans talking about it until he rewatched the show. Which i find insane

The Mayor was the most interesting villains on the show, possibly on all of TV. He's the main reason I find season 3 so much fun.

5:20 What happens when you run from your problems instead of dealing with them. Poor guy. Crappy family probably taught him that. And yet in a fictional setting, highly entertaining. *Leans in* Faith *twitch* hehehe Club scene however is my favorite. Memories. I'm actually one of the few people that likes this villain. "Already I'm bored." At least I'm not alone in enjoying the Mayor. That to do list killed me.

In Helpless the test was meant to keep Slayer's young enough that they could 'control'. Very few Slayers survived to eighteen and it was even rarer for those that did to survive the test. The council do train their Watchers but they PURPOSELY sent an incompetent and inexperienced Watcher (Wesley) to Buffy and Faith with the intention of getting them both killed, so a new Slayer would be called. With Giles rebelling against the council and still being an influence to Buffy and Faith (to a degree) they thought it was inevitable that she would also rebel and be less controllable, especially now that she's no longer considered a child.

Good episode. Really shows the difference between Buffy and Faith. I hope Faith can accept responsibility for killing a human, like Buffy did in the episode 'Ted' or she might go down a dark path.

This is the first Faith based episode and technically the first episode that fully places S3 arcs onto the front burner minus senior year at school elements. Doug Petrie, the writer of the episode, always tried to make Balthazar out as a threat on The Mayor's scale if he were to stand, but I always thought it would have been more like X-Men's Blob. Nobody in the long run.

Sad episode, because this shows Faith's pathology. Everybody has issues, and Faith's cause her to try to pretend that she's too tough to care. Love the new watcher. He's a total dork, while Giles never loses his cool no matter what happens. This episode is the first time I can remember seeing Buffy get tempted to be flat out bad. Breaking and entering when it wasn't necessary for slaying, stealing, leaving school in the middle of a test. She's letting Faith influence her in all of the wrong ways. We'll have to see how that plays out. I get a kick out of watching you watch the mayor. He is a riot. Can't wait for your next episode.

I do love a good foil. In Faith's tempting Buffy's case I find it interesting how often the first time you really try something you almost inevitably get caught or something bad happens that turns you around.

Willow really annoyed me in this episode because do y'all remember how her and Xander were all team Faith when she first arrived and basically ditched Buffy for her? Now that it's the other way around she wants to be all hurt.

I have a very long (spoiler) theory that I think shows why. But without spoilers it is because at the time, Xander and Willow were upset with Buffy and using Faith as substitute friends until Buffy said, "Angel was cured." I almost always write the very long theory in the next episode, but if I forget, I have it on domi e's _Consequences_ episode. She just uploaded hers yesterday. And I won't be uploading for a while as I will need to take my computer in for some fixing before many other reactions are uploaded.

@@Henrik_Holst Or we make excuses for ourselves that we don't make for others. I learned once that a good rule of thumb is if somebody takes you off tell yourself a story. You already tell yourself a story when you do something and lay all the reasons. Make up a possible reason for that person. At worst you're wrong. At best you get over it and add a little more human dignity to the world.

@@barbarabaker1457 Exactly! The ID of your personality is a strong one, take for example the studies where some 90% of people claim that they are above average for various things (exists for both car driving and intelligence AFAIK) when of course most of us are exactly at average :)
