I think its an understatement to say that Faith is a VERY complicated person, at this point. And yeah it was shown in Season 2 that at least some of Sunnydale police and overall city officials answer to the Mayor and intentionally cover up supernatural-related crimes. Alas Deputy Mayor is basically Vice President equivalent in terms of city officials - its an elected position so Faith essentially killed second most well known politician in town. Stuff like that would get on the news no matter what and in this case the Mayor has no interest in it not being public anyway.

Mayor Wilkins is one of the best villains to ever be seen on BTVS, thanks to the sublime talents of actor Harry Groener. Just last year Groener appeared in a low-budget flick called "A Place Among the Dead", which is about a woman who is making - wait for it - a vampire documentary. Juliet Landau stars as the documentary filmmaker, and of course we all know her as Drusilla from Buffy. Landau also wrote and directed the movie; here's the trailer. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHOQoKd-q9mdhqs

It's the second time they go with the theme of a homicidal slayer after the "Ted" episode. But this time it's for real. Remember how Buffy reacted the last time when her and Joyce were interrogated with the police ? "I hit him..." With Faith its' the opposite. To her defense it seems she had a dysfunctional family that didn't teach her values, then she was plunged into a world of violence and horror.

Another explosive episode. I liked what you said about everybody falling apart in this episode. There are lots of great episodes not written or directed by Joss Whedon. He was the team captain of a writing staff that did some great work. I've always loved both Faith and the Mayor... such interesting characters. It's scary to see Faith trying to "switch sides". I'm scared OF Faith's emotional chaos... but I'm also scared FOR her.
@TheRulesLawyerRPG11 ай бұрын
While Marti Noxon wrote it and I'm sure deserves the main credit, I'm guessing that while Whedon only had one show he was vetting every script, and also that he was working out story beats for each episode with the writing team. However, he DID save the episodes he valued most this season for himself, writing FIVE of them! Not all were heavy dramas, however, as Sofie soon sees after this ;)

Its sad...but Xander was the logical choice of Scooby to reach out to Faith. He's the one who's homelife and past most resembles hers. Both are kids from broken homes. Faith just ended up on the street while Xander lives with the abuse to keep a roof over his head. Buffy and Willow don't know anything about that kind of life. Xander at least has an idea. And once again we get see Xander sexually assaulted and almost murdered by a woman. And once again his trauma isn't dealt with. Sometimes I hate this show.

@@SoFieReactsTV He blatantly hinted in season 1 that when he played kiddie league baseball he was punished (beaten) for messing up a game. And in this season we saw him risking his life sleeping outside on Christmas Eve on the Hellmouth rather than be 'safe' inside his own home to avoid his parents' drunken fights. The writers never gave us a clear view...but the hints pretty much smack us in the face.

they did this to show how easy it is for a slayer to turn to the dark side, and how faith is buffys dark counterpart and how it could of been buffy
@Buffy8Fan3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't surprise me that Faith turns to the Mayor over the Scoobies. This has been her POV in the first half of the season in dealing with them: Giles, nor Wesley, ever even bother trying to find Faith a decent place to live and Joyce invites her for dinner in _Faith, Hope and Trick_ only to see if she can take over for Buffy. Also in _Faith, Hope and Trick,_ Xander and Willow only pretend to be friends with Faith because their friendship with Buffy is still rocky until the end of that episode. It is why they only treat Faith professionally in _Beauty and the Beasts_ and onward. In _Homecoming,_ Xander and Willow ignore Faith during the dance and by doing so, show her that they aren't her friends anymore by making sure to put Cordelia in the car Faith was supposed to be in to ignore their own guilt and thus leaving Faith alone and friendless at a school dance of a school she doesn't even go to. Faith being upset about losing Xander and Willow as friends is why she is away from the group during _Band Candy._ In _Revelations,_ Xander attempted to use Faith as an assassin to kill Angel. Whether it was Faith's idea or not means little in terms of Xander not correcting her misconception as he asked, "Can I come?" (only after Giles is knocked out does he acknowledge it [Willow and Buffy also chastise him for it]. He should have tried to correct Faith's misconceptions when he had the chance as it is too late once Giles is unconscious and Faith sees an unconscious Giles as confirmation of what she needs to do). Buffy is forced to step in the middle of Faith and Angel. Gwendolyn Post only stirred an already brewing pot of trouble. She didn't cause it. But her betrayal also made things worse. After that, Faith's distrust in the Scoobies as a whole is why she is absent for the episodes _Lovers Walk_ and _The Wish._ In _Amends,_ Faith attempts to give Buffy another chance and she views Buffy as blowing said chance when Buffy has Faith abandon a Christmas Faith had been invited to and babysit Joyce so Buffy could help Angel. To which Buffy didn't even explain any of this to Faith. The hurt Faith feels over that is why she is absent in _Gingerbread_ and _Helpless._ In _The Zeppo,_ Faith's revenge against Xander for using her as an assassin is kicking him out after getting her itch scratched. And the friendship in _Bad Girls_ is her revenge against Buffy for her real and perceived slights up to this point. She pretends to be Buffy's friend. Xander and Willow most likely giving her the idea. But then Faith ends up needing real friendship, help, and support in _Consequences_ and the Scooby Gang have now shown why they are incapable of doing so, which is why Buffy turns to Angel for help in this episode, to which the Scoobies do a poor job on helping. They have pushed her away enough to, from Faith's POV, not want to help her let alone be able to, thus they turn to Angel to help her (which was also a risk as Buffy was dating him) but it seemed to be a start until Wesley screws it up. People who read my comments probably know this theory quite well, but I always feel when it comes to The Scoobies vs Faith, Faith needs a little defending as the Scoobies weren't entirely innocent to her decision of why she would choose The Mayor over them.

- Buffy did not "make Faith abandon" a party she was invited to. There was no party. Faith was making it up. That was very clear in the episode. And it's a bit weird to say that Buffy should've left Angel kill himself so she could spend more time with Faith, isn't it? - Faith did not "take revenge" against Xander by kicking him out. She used him for sex and had no interest in him beyond that. She sure wasn't interested in cuddling and talking to him. Faith did not "take revenge" against Buffy by "pretending to be her friend". Faith wanted to be Buffy's friend.
@Buffy8Fan3 жыл бұрын
@@frakkintoasterluvva7920 I don't think anyone in the Scooby Gang made Faith do anything. The point is that from _"Faith's perspective"_ she doesn't trust any of the group enough to stay. Its also why I mention "real and perceived slights." So you saying "Faith was making it up" is the whole point to the theory or perhaps Faith has a point or perhaps there is a mixture of "real and perceived slights." I also never said Buffy should have let Angel kill himself to spend time with Faith on Christmas. Seeing as Joyce knew about vampires she didn't need a babysitter, just a warning not to leave the house. Buffy could have taken Faith with her and made her part of the group and wanted (as Faith acknowledged to Gwendolyn Post is what she wanted) by doing so. I said Faith was _also_ getting her itch scratched (you describe it as using him for sex). I personally think she was _also_ subconsciously getting revenge. If you don't see it that way. It is fine by me. You have a right to your opinions as well as I do. I believe Faith was pretending friends because the writers stated she lost trust in the Scoobies in _Revelations._ I could believe Faith tried a friendship with Buffy again and "perceived" Buffy as failing her, and that combined with her denial is why she blamed Buffy. But I think the way I see it is more plausible. There is nothing in my theory saying it cannot be right nor anything in yours saying it cannot be right. My theory is just how I chose/believed Faith to see it.
