Alfred Kirwa Yego of Kenya needed all 800 meters to beat Canadian Gary Reed at the line. Yego's time of 1:47.09 was a fraction better than Reed's who ran 1:47.10. (WCSN, WCSN.com)

So proud of Gary Reed, but so bummed that he couldn't quite hold on. Probably the greatest middle distance runner ever produced by Canada.

Its funny how some comments say africans are cocky but if they wouldve one they would have done the same no doubt.

all those kenyans started out without coaches, leave alone coaches, no shoes. so you can't complain of diet n coaches.

@jeremywrnr lol, but in his defense its not easy to muster much after an 800 even if it is slow.

see insults again, i have run an 800m race, who are u to question me? you stated in ur first post that he "deserved to win because he is Kenyan". how is that fair? is that not biased? thats like saying that an american deserves to win the 100m. nobody deserves to win anything (in general)unless they work hard and PERFORM ON THE DAY. youre result shouldnt be based upon youre nationality, its should be based on ur performance thats all i was saying.

yes, trading insults and swearing at ppl is pointless and frankly tiresome. the original post may have been that Reed should have one, which he should have...if he was good enough. clearly on this day he wasnt. but ur argument was solely based on the fact that he is a kenyan. that isnt really patriotism. i know u shud support ur own country, thats the name of the game. but u shud have said he deserved to win because he is faster or more skilled, it would have been more appropriate, thats all.

are u on drugs?? the only person that "deserves" to win is the person who runs fastest on the day. if its a kenyan so be it, if its not then so be it as well. thats like saying asafa powell deserves to win the olympics coz he's got the world record. he doesnt unless he performs on the day. dont talk crap mate
