Friends, the song was composed by Raghunath ji only, for my film Yeh Nazdeekiyaan in 1981. The lyrics were written by me at the back of an envelope, while travlling to Panchgani for location recce for the same film. Raghunath ji was very worried because the recording had been fixed and he had no lyrics in hand, consequently no composition had been worked upon. I somehow had not been able to come up with anything despite my keenness to write it to save money. I had promised him that I shall have a song in hand before I return to Mumbai. The pressure was constantly working on me while in Panchgani. Then the exotica of the locations worked upon me and while travelling back, amid constant nudge of a very worried Shafi Mohammad, the Production Controller, it happened. I scribbled the lyrics during the bumps of cab-travel. Thanks and God bless.

I have analysed this song on headphones. The construction, chord progression, use of the relative minor in the BGMs etc unmistakably point towards RD. Add to that the fact that Tony Vaz is playing the bass guitar. He cannot be missed because he was the only bass guitarist at that time in Bollywood who used to play with a pick, not with fingers or the slap. The use of the bass guitar as a lead instrument was pioneered by RD which inspired few others to adopt the style. The sax sounds distinctly Manohari da. The cross line also has a section that takes after an old SD Burman song. As others have pointed out in this column, this song has Pancham da"s stamp all over it. There are many composers like Jatin Lalit (hear the numbers from Yaara Dildaara and Khiladi), Anand Milind (ghazab ka hai din from QSQT) who used RD's style when he was going through his bad patch in life. Similarly RD allowed many of his songs to be used by others such as Sapan da. So directly or indirectly RD's hangover has shaped this song. Absolutely a treat and to be rated as one of Ashaji"s best of the best.
