Vikram Rai Bahadur is the only son of Mrs. Sharda, and sole heir to a vast business and estate. While vacationing with his artiste friend, Gogi, he meets a beautiful girl named Sunita and falls head over heels in love with her. He proposes marriage to her, and she accepts. They get married in a quiet temple ceremony and vow never to part with each other. Shortly thereafter their vehicle meets with an accident. While Gogi sustains minor injuries, Vikram is badly hurt and hospitalized, and Sunita is severely disfigured. Dr. Sahni and Dr. Mehra befriend Sunita and restore her disfigurement by plastic surgery. She quickly recovers, and cannot wait to give the good news to Vikram. Then she finds out that Vikram has given up on her, and is engaged to another beautiful, but wealthy young woman named Rita. Vikram is unable to recognize Sunita nor is interested in knowing her. Sunita decides to change her name to Kusum Mehra, and begins life anew. Will Vikram and Kusum's paths cross in the future, and if so, will they be able to remember their vows?

CHILDHOOD MEMORIES!!!....Saw this marvelous! movie for the first time in Nigeria, as a 12yr old kid, curled up in front of the television in my father's house...(RIP Daddy)...I could and can sing some of the songs phonetically, which amazed my family members LOL!.. Such a beautiful! on screen chemistry between the 2 leading ladies and Rishi Ji. The Kapoors just have that naturally, it seems. If you have seen his uncle Shashi Ji in "Satyam Shivam Sundaram," burning up the screen with intense chemistry alongside Zeenat Aman, you definitely know what I mean. Thank you! for having this timeless and romantic movie easily accessible on YT.

This has to be Tina Munim's best performance ever. What a movie what a story God!!! People tell me I seldom show any emotions in life but this movie made me cry. the scene where poonam dhillon was lying on the bed helpless made me cry like hell. Poonamji, Shammi saab and Rakhee ji did a fantastic job. Poonam Dhillon was Ravishingly beautiful. But it was Rishi and Tina who stood above all. We miss u Rishi Kapoor.

I met Rishi Kapoor at Santa Cruz Airpot in Bombay years and years ago. I had gone there with my younger brother to meet my older brother who coming from abroad. Randhir/Rishi Kapoor went to the same school as my brothers. My brother introduced me to Rishi and he then took us to meet his family. I met Raj Kapoor his wife Krishna, his father Prithviraj Kapoor, Randhir/Rajiv and Rita. That was the most memorable day for me. Rishi was the same age as my older brother. When Rishi died it was like I lost my brother all over again who died at the age of 40. Now they are both together and May they both Rest In Peace

Besides the exceptional soundtrack, the combination of Tina Munim’s performance and Jaya Bhaduri’s voice is what really made the second half of this film, especially the ending, my favorite! Loved the use of two differently shot versions of Yeh Vaada Raha during that shift from “Sunita” to “Kusum” to show her accepting her new appearance and becoming more confident in herself again! The emotional impact of the scenes Tina Munim had with both Rishi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor was immense, really emphasized how it’s not the external beauty that matters, but the beauty of the soul!

Tina Munim has acted very well in this movie. She didn't know how to act in her earlier movies and used to be quite wooden, but the director here extracted a good performance from her. Of course the dubbing for both actresses, Poonam Dhillon and Tina Munim, was done by Jaya Bhaduri, so you hear Jaya ji's voice for both. What struck me in this movie was that the director took extremely fair complexioned main characters!! Rishi Kapoor, Poonam, Raakhee, Shammi Kapoor, Sarika, Tina.......but of course skin colour does not define beauty.

My childhood, the last time I saw this movie was about 30 years ago, but I watched it so much that I still remember all the songs and dialogue, I wish this had sub titles so other people can enjoy it the way I did as a child. Is there a subtitled version? I wish it's subtitled for those of us that are not Indians. Although I can understand to a large extent but it would have been much more better to know every words and sentences being spoken. What a great love story....so emotional. RIP Rishi Kapoor.
