@ArthurRubinstein The first time it's light and bright, the second time comes one 5th lower which will naturally sound a bit 'fatter' darker in the violin , he emphasizes that rallentando a bit which I think is appropriate. I think you can't compare those 2 passages.

I just got a bit angry about some people who sit in their laptops and write something like "what's happening with that guy's bow?! He's about to pluck someone's eye out!!!" i just got finished listening to the isaac stern/itzhak perlman version of this song. it sounds so different to this. it's almost more powerful, while this is a 'prettier' rendition. not that either one is bad, just interesting how different the same piece of music can sound, depending on who is playing it.

It is fantastic, although I prefer the recording of the 1930s of Menuhin. One can clearly hear that, if Ostrakh has more power, Menuhin has more musicality (1.03-1.10 for instance). To me, Menuhin will be always the best.

both of them are beyond the realm of critizism. menuhin has got a different set tonal quality. its like a french kiss between western and indian classical. and it is beyong any language to describe the feeling but to relish it.
