4-5 hours of sleep? Thats not healthy 😱 Edit: to all people commenting its healthy since many students live like this, YOU ARE TERRIBLY WRONG! Just because it is normal way to live for someone doesnt make it healthy. Please read some studies that explore what lack of sleep does to your brain and educate yourselves better. You should sleep at least 7 hour every night without exception.

The only thing i dont like in SK was the long hours in school. I mean i love the culture but not the unjust principle of their education system. I feel proud for those student who could endure 4-5hrs sleep hours and sorry for the students who spent their time in school. No time for family and for rest. Im still glad that our eduaction system is not that strict.

I’m curious about why students spend so many hours studying after school. Is there like assigned material? Is it to just learn extra material? Is it even required because how would anyone be able to do other things with their lives? I’m just wondering because I never get more than 45 minutes of homework after school?

Just think of it like free time for doing your studies. You can study whatever you need, if you have homework that day you can do that, and if you don't you can always do other studies. In some schools, YAJA is a must but in our school it wasn't.

So we can study more and more focused, in my case my mother doesn’t like it when I stay at home (for studying) she thinks I won’t focus and since those spaces are available I must use them. in our school, we only study when there is a quiz or when we have exams (or sometimes we don’t). i think most of the time some of us do get enough sleep but i think that’s not the case for everyone. but for me, it depends ‘cause i always cram && i have a lot of unimportant things to do like watching movies & stuff. i get 9-5 hours of sleep depending on what i do, but most of the time i get 7-8 hours but during exams i get 4-2 hours of sleeep. also, our classes start at 7:10 am, i wake up at 5:30 am. our class ends 2:30/3:30. i think it’s not that stressful for US, the things that make our minds explode are the homeworks, projects, presentations, and things like that.

We have classes every weekdays A fact that if you'll reach an average score of 90+ on every grading you will be called an honor ; if 95+ high honor then 97-100 highest honor

personally i find it so weird how you guys have to stay at school till 11pm or even more. in the UK that would be classed as child abuse, here teachers aren’t allowed to keep other people’s children at school that late, especially not if it’s compulsory. i get that there’s a lot of competition in south korea therefore you need to study hard but most people will only intensively study if they have an exam coming up. it baffles me that you would study every single day for 16 hours for 12 years. i really couldn’t i’d have a breakdown. i really hope in the future the korean education system changes. children are having to work harder than most adults who have JOBS, actual jobs, simply to be the best of the best. they develop awful metal illnesses and the worst thing is it isn’t even taken seriously and there’s limited councillors in korea as it’s seen as taboo to complain about your metal state which is completely and utterly ridiculous. every korean i’ve came across seems to only care about their appearance and IQ (i don’t mean this is an offensive or stereotype-like way) however it’s simply true. it’s no ones fault it’s just your whole countries concept is to be liked by everyone and seen as a respectful member of society. it really needs to change, everyone is valuable and worthy no matter their circumstances. no one has fun anymore, everyone’s just stiff and miserable with an awful mind frame and mentality. you only live to please others. you barely even ‘live’ you work to survive. i’m sorry for my awful rant i just despise the korean schooling/ working system.

I would have 3-4 hours of homework a night in Highschool. Actual things assigned to be handed in and graded. And we had quizzes and tests often making up the final grade. Senior year I also had a job 4 hours after school 3 days a week and all day Saturday. That last year I would do some homework in lunch or during another class. I would multitask. Tv on or music while doing it. Also talking on the phone. A friend and I would help explain the math we were stuck on. Explaining something to another is a great way for it to sink in. Still would go to bed 11 or 12. Up after 6. I had 7-8 classes per day in school. Every day the same 7 classes. That year I added in the 8th class was not a good idea. I had more credits than needed to graduate or go to college. 3 years we had science. 3 years we had social science. Every year math and English. 2 years of language. 4 years of music. A few art classes. Driving class for short time. And 4 years of religion. It was academic a bit of church history and such. Even some summer classes. Practice for music was outside of the 3-4 hours. School was relatively close even by city bus. I was not traveling back and forth to the school or study place. It was eat and go back to homework. Our test for college at the time was just two subjects. English and Math. But the grades you got in history and science and Spanish and other classes mattered to get into college. You needed to have a minimum of certain classes and a certain grade point average. And they wanted you to do things outside of school like work or volunteer or do an activity. That improved your chance for the school of your choice. We had 15 hours of community service each year to graduate. There was a lot of academic pressure but it was set up to provide a balanced life. The job in high school was brilliant for life. With that job financial responsibility came in small steps. First it was paying for own clothing and car insurance and gas and entertainment, then you added on cell phone bill and larger ticket items like tech and car repair. By the time you were done with college living expenses and retirement savings were just a few more lines to the budget. I watch Kdrama’s and wonder why a 36 year old is living with their parents still getting spending money or hundreds of thousands to marry. I have been watching for almost 20 years. I get it’s the culture. It still seems so different.
