I rescued a fledging squab a week ago from underneath a pile of rubble. It's doing a lot better than before but once a day or every other day it would grasp for air quite seriously during which its eyes become watery and shed a bit of tear like we do when we choke on food. It takes about 10-15 min for it to overcome this ordeal after it cough out quite a bit chuck of yellow mucus. Would yellow drop work for this symptom or what medication would you recommend? I am sorry for the delay. I have been very busy the last couple weeks. I hope the bird is okay. Sounds like it needs a good treatment for canker. You will need Metronidazole to cure the baby. Flagyl is the human name for the drug.

@@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons It flew away a few days ago. It stayed with me for about one and a half week during which its broken femur fused and it regained toes movement to a degree. The chest infection was still there but overall it was getting a lot better than when I got it. I found it under the roofing rubble that crashed its leg. I think someone threw out old roofing stuffs without realising there was a pigeon nest there.

You heard my Black Copper Marans. Sad the Coyotes did a number on my Ayam Cemani roosters. I keep the Ayam Cemani chickens at the pigeon lofts and I keep the Black Copper Marans at my home. Have two BCM roosters running around with Black Copper Marans hens and some other Easter Egg Layers. The Black Copper Marans lay a dark brown egg.

I usually do not worry so much about getting their weight down before breeding. This happens naturally when I put the lights on before breeding. I should have mentioned that I am in Australia, and our climate means that we don't need darkening or artificial lighting. Hello Graham, It seems you give the breeders before breeding 95% barley to get the body weight down? That will cut their weight down. Just move them back to a rich grain mix once you pair so the hens produce high quality eggs.

I have not tried this but it may work. I usually give when I have to crate the birds for training. Many use the day before shipping. When my birds race they usually have a couple days rest. After the stress of a race the canker and cocci goes up but when I rest the birds two days the canker and cocci drops naturally with the birds own immune systems.

Frank, if you have 80-100 birds, doing it every week is a hassle. How effective is giving it on the feed? I've heard that putting 3 syringes within that bottle onto 350g of feed is also as good as putting it in the throat. Any experience putting it in the water?

This will not help a full blown respiratory infection. You may want to inject the pigeon with LA 200 sold at Tractor Supply. Give 0.4 ml behind the neck. One shot will clear it up.

It is a respiratory problem in the lungs/airsacs. Some pigeons will have this and others will be just fine. Treat the sick birds individually. No matter what you do a few will have respiratory issues.

Hi Frank, I like your videos - in this case I do not fully agree with the statement that this is a natural product. Yellow Drops is in fact nothing else then Acriflavin which is mainly used in the aquahobby for treating of aquarium fish, you can also buy it much cheaper in the Aquarium shops. It was used before also for Human medication - but as there exist suspicion that Acriflavin can initiate cancer - it is not anymore the case. So in case you use it - rather do it in gloves.

Hello. Lost one yesterday to stinky, sticky poop. Stay away from yellow tablets: Furazolidone 12.5 mg. So we got possibly bacteria, coccy, worms, and fungus(Candida) to blame on. I did find white non odorous buggary things at necropsy. I am going to start with deworming, then cocci, then baytril, then , nystatin, then a probiotic. 🙏

Does not stain the throat very long and does not seem to stain the wattle. One day I gave to the pigeons in the pouring rain. I got it all over my hands and on their feathers. It did stain the feathers for a couple weeks.

The fungicide and ICk on fish must be closely related to Canker or trichinosis.. love learning new things.. the Ohio Penn guys down here have been losing lots of birds from short races.. been so hot one mistake and it’s disaster or even fatal for for these YB seems like nobody wants to ship Saturday for Sunday it’s really a big mess out in central OHio And younger guys have to work Fridays how do get new members??
