I’m from America and I couldn’t be a bigger fan of YMO. Takahashi and Sakamoto recently passing always makes me sad, but I’m just glad their legacy can be immortalized by this music.

I'm lucky enough to have some vinyl YMO records, and never seen this video before. Also have some Haruomi Hosono records and this music is just phenomenal! Glad you enjoy this!
Might have been nice to see and hear back in the analog days ? Eh.

@@mokisan As an elementary school student who used to air-check the radio on tape at the time, it is strange that such a beautiful, high-quality image can be played back in the palm of my hand, and I cannot help but feel grateful. Thank you Alpha.
Huge huge huge tune here in Belgium... used by many pirate stations in the 80's 90's !!!! I never knew that this was Japanese and that members already passed. RIP because this is a real masterpiece. De

in Italy it was the theme of a game show from the 80s called BIS, it was a game that combined 2 games: memory where you had to find two identical cards corresponding to a prize and if they were found you had to discover the board where a rebus was hidden to guess
子供心に、これを聴いたときのショックは忘れられない。教授、どうぞ安らかに。 I still remember how I felt when I listened to this as a young kid. Rest in peace, Mr.Sakamoto.

When I was in my late teens (in the early eighties) I heard this on radio and recorded it on a cassette tape, and I ran it for some eight years after that, but I could never identify the group and what the song was called. Then, in the early nineties I heard in a record shop on a YMO Japan pressed LP I picked out and I almost shouted out loud when I finally heard it! Since then, this is my tune. It is my life tune.

Me in 2024 after discovered YMO: "Woah, the music is really funky back then!" Japanese and the entire planet earth back in 1978-1979: "BRO I SWEAR TO GOD, THOSE GUYS DEFINITELY ARE ALIENS!! WHAT ARE THOSE SOUNDS!? HOW COULD THEY USED THEM AND MADE IT INTO MUSIC LIKE THAT!!?" Big salute to 3 legends who evolved music to a whole new level.
Hip hop, house, techno, and electro-funk just wouldn't be the same without Yellow Magic Orchestra. May Yukihiro Takahashi and Ryuichi Sakamoto rest in peace, and I hope Haruomi Hosono is doing well in these tragic times.

Hip hop, house and techno would be ok goddamn it, Yes YMO inspired these genres, but “wouldn’t be the same” is too exaggerated. No disrespect to the legends rip

i love that these guys invented electronic music at the same time as kraftwerk on the other side of the globe. many love from germany! this song still rocks!
@omegajrz1269Ай бұрын
No. YMO made their first album in 1978. Kraftwerk had been making music since the early 70s. Moreover, electronic music has its precedents in avant-garde composers such as John Cage, Stockhausen or Terry Riley.
@sweetpeachnectarАй бұрын
@@omegajrz1269 but only autobahn from '74 is considered electronic music. kraftwerk did kraut rock prior to this. also, all the avant-garde musicians weren't suitable for the masses, what ymo and kraftwerk definitely were.
