Respiratory Acidosis and Respiratory Alkalosis- Nursing
Respiratory acidosis is a clinical disorder in which the pH is less than 7.35 and the PaCO2 is greater than 45 mm Hg.
Causes :
Respiratory disorders (COPD, emphysema, asthma, pneumonia, Atelectasis, Bronchiectasis & Bronchitis Acute respiratory distress syndrome)
Hypercapnia : Mechanical ventilation related hypercapnia if the rate of ventilation is inadequate and CO2 retained
Edema : Pulmonary Edema
Aspiration of a foreign object.
Respiratory muscles Impairment: muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis, and Guillain-Barré syndrome
Trauma : Brain trauma
Emboli : Pulmonary Emboli
Drugs : Narcotics and benzodiazepines
