Another thing people can do to help: If you were planning on going to Yellowstone this summer, visit the towns north of it instead, once the roads open again. Gardiner, Cooke City and other communities around YNP survive almost completely on tourism. You don't have to pay to explore those areas (unless you come across a state park and don't have Montana plates), and the close proximity to Yellowstone means they have pretty much all the same wildlife. You can fish, hike and camp, and it would be a huge blessing to those communities if you pump your vacation money into their economies as you'd originally planned.

Where there once was oceans and seas are now deserts, sand dunes, what was a beautiful forest is now a beautiful meadow. There is nothing wrong with the earth changing, humankind is not responsible. Please just accept the earth has been forming nonstop since it's inception. With or without humans the land has been in a state of constant change, always. Think of this as human life as we celebrate birth yet fear, fight, do not accept death. We were once young, strong, healthy and eventually we get wrinkles, bent over, weak , blind, fragile, die. Then came a warmer storm where it dumped rain. I was on the bear tooth highway Sunday and it was raining at over 10,000 feet. It turned to snow but was wet snow. All that rain on top of a pretty thick snow pack led to a massive amount of water flowing off all these peaks and into the lower creeks and rivers. Its been a wild spring out here. will it be open july 12
@Skyesoceaneyes2 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely! Well, ok, not the north entrance through Gardiner, Montana. That area is what was hit hard. But the south entrance and the most popular west entrance should be open. What you will have to watch for is that they are currently using a licence plate system. If this continues until then, on July 12th only those with an even licence plate number on their car will be allowed in the park. (Those with lodging reservations within the park and tour bus groups are exceptions on every day.) On odd days, only cars with odd licence plate numbers may enter. By July they may still be using this system, they may have come up with some sort of reservation system, or there may be no restrictions, so you'll need to look into it as the date approaches.

@@izziethetortilla5547 Also, the Cody, Wyoming entrance (Northeast) is open, too. And now the government is fast tracking funds to repair the damage in the north area, so things in that direction may open up a lot sooner than originally predicted.

They don't maintain river banks on the Colorado River either. Terrible runoff is wasting a valuable resource. Our politicians have acknowledged the terrible conditions but Tribal members lack cooperation.

A friend said that parts of the park are open?
@Skyesoceaneyes2 жыл бұрын
It's not open at all yet to tourists but will this Wednesday (6/22/22). They are starting of with a system to restrict visitors- if your license plate ends in an even number you can only come on even days and if it ends in an odd number you can only come on odd days. Tour groups and those with lodging reservations within the park are exceptions.

As a life long resident of SW Montana, this is absolutely devastating, with that said, we need an effing break from the onslaught of people!! Gives us some time to fix all this, and when you come back, please do so with a little less entitlement. Yellowstone is Federal land, yep, but all the communities that surround it, are not. We are working folk!!

I was supposed to go to gardiner the first week of July, obviously those plans are canceled now the hotel won't refund me my money bc it's a "non refundable" room. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do since they don't want to refund the money? The hotel even said "you can use the money towards a future stay with us" like that doesn't help me at all. No one has any idea when the roads or park will be completely reopen or repaired.

Dispute charges and hopefully your bank or whatever reverses the charges.

Alot of motels have that policy unfortunately. Can't believe they aren't giving your money back though. They should it's a natural disaster

@@wyomingadventures that's exactly what I told the hotel manager. that it was a natural disaster and there was like no telling when things could be reopened and all they told me was use the money for a future visit which more than likely will not happen.
