Cool stuff. The argument that they're taking jobs away is absurd. Remember how it was said that robots will take factory jobs? Yet, we still have factory jobs 150 years later. You can't stop automation. The save money argument is true but who doesn't like saving money and if Starbucks treats its workers poorly, a robot eliminates that. So cool stuff Chris and you know of any other cool tech that you can show?

I'm a pizza delivery driver in Utah, and let me tell you that this is the future. Literally last night, on a Friday evening, we only had TWO delivery drivers on the clock. Short-staffed is the new norm, and customers hate it because the food is always late. Anyhow, so delivery robots are a must to fill that gap. And while this little fella can't do long distance deliveries like I can, autonomous vehicles can, and companies like Domino's are currently working on it.

Hi. Regards from Finland. Very interesting video. I have seen one and made a short video of it recently. It was nice and friendly, because it slowed down when it reached us. This happened when we returned from our food shopping tour. We are an old couple which walk twice a week for food shopping. The round trip is about 4.0 km / 2.49 mi long. We both have a backpack on our back and one bag in our hand. Sometimes I have two bags, meaning that I have one bag in both hands. Why we walk for shopping? It is very natural. It keeps in a good condition! No need to go to the gym. Sometimes we add an additional longer route for shopping. In winter, when the temperature is about -24°C / -11°F, We walk also - naturally. Can you imagine if we have cold? No, not at all, because we are carrying heavy food loads with us. This means that after walking about half of our trip, we are starting to sweat. The big question is, of course, if would we like to change our shopping habits to a robot? Of course not, because we will maintain our physical condition in the current way. So natural! Matti

Is this the future? Possibly. Is it worth it? I don’t think so. While we have UberEats and other food delivery services available, they aren’t really great. Mainly because of the human aspect of the delivery. 1) Delivery staff can take the money and call it a day while the customer gets nothing. The service may terminate the staff for failure to comply and theft. 2) Delivery order can be ridiculously small and not worth the trip like that order of Starbucks. Not saying for this device but for the delivery service that uses people. The driver can just simply decline. The order and it may be handed to another driver who may pick it up, ultimately forcing a driver to make the trip and delivering the small order that probably took a large portion of the profit for gas. 3) These delivery services are paid poorly. One might be fortunate to get a tip (if that’s how most services work) but I believe they just get a small delivery payment and the rest goes to the service which is really the sad part of these services. I believe that this will eventually replace human delivery drivers for those kinds of services as they are kind of better. Small, rechargeable, they look sturdy and are aware of their surroundings. Its the “ghetto” part of communities since they can be stolen and scavenged for parts. That is what worries me for these small buggers. Anyways, that’s just me and what I’ve seen in my community.

Time is money and who wants to wait that long for a mile and a half or less food delivery??? You would think that the restaurants would get tired of this real quick. Why are they putting forth all that effort to make the food and then trust a robot street delivery??? You would also think that the customers would get tired of it but those customers love the robots so much that they're willing to accept all kinds of trouble over and over again to get that food order delivered without having to deal with a human. What a crazy mixed-up world this is.

Fascinating. I wonder if they might later modify it to find you, so if you you went into a bookstore (I think those still exist!), it would "track" your phone there, and wait outside like a puppy. The "wait for no traffic" seems sketchy given its low speed. Crossing vehicle roads at far less than vehicle speeds is adventurous (remember Frogger). No doubt everyone near San Diego has seen those yellow signs on the freeway that are not deer impact warnings but "illegal border crosser" warnings. I've always wondered but I assume they're there because crossing lanes of fast traffic holds unintended consequences.
