Yeonmi Park is the definition of strenght, resilience and hope! The world and the people of NK should know her story. What she's been through at such a young age and where she is now today is probably one of the most powerful story of the 21th century! She's a survivor and there is nothing stopping her from achieving her dreams. Wish her the best!

Awesome to hear here that Ms. Park read Bastiat, Von Mises (and Friedman) as part of her self-education. What a powerful mind! Her father, may he rest in peace, he managed to pass on such a wonderful gift to his daughter, a legacy that anyone would be so proud of. I am so glad to see that Ms. Park values the substantial things in life, and is bringing this message to the world.

@@elainaconstantinou8700 You should read the book again. They took buses to the Chinese border town, near Mongolia. Their previously paid smugglers then escorted them to the first of the 5 or so fences they had to cross. Then they were on their own for that one night and into the next day, crossing the desert on foot.

@@BlueMeaney49 No, what she is saying is true. I have a friend who returned from the south who told me that she was featured in a TV show and that's basically it. It is not as if everyone looks around as she passes by. Most of the both Korean defectors are not popular in SK and they mostly lead the life of an average South Korean, no difference there.

Not to undermine the atrocities she experienced but Wasn’t her family considered relatively privileged? Her dad was a party member and had enough resources to smuggle metal but eventually got caught.
@TrinhNguyen-sh4fj5 жыл бұрын
dbsk06 Yes you are right! She was part of the elite and living the good life until her dad got caught and fell from grace. If not then she would probably still be in North Korea enjoying her life and blind to the suffering of the rest of the people.
@dbsk065 жыл бұрын
A month later but there are serious indiscrepancies in her stories. The atrocities described are horrible no doubt but she definitely borrowed stories from when she worked in broadcasting in south Korea relaying stories of actual victims from North Korea. The part about her mom and her being sexually exploited is a lie. People get so emotional hearing her sensational lies that they don’t even use their brains to evaluate the veracity. There are lots of articles on line about her lying already. I am not saying it’s great in North Korea but she’s exploiting other people’s suffering for money
