Yeovil Town, 4 relegations in 9 years, what has gone wrong?

Yeovil were in the EFL Championship in 2014 but are now in the National League South in just 9 years, what has gone wrong?

Nice video, unfortunately we were left with an owner who was more interested in the land thank the Football. Thankfully, we have a new local owner who has invested in cleaning the ground up (hence the work going on) and the team.

I am a volunteer at the club its been a very good start for us. Very rough couple of seasons being strangled by the previous owner. Good to just watch us win again.

Moved from London to Somerset in 1970 and used to be a teenage regular standing in the Bass Charrington End at the old Huish Ground in the 70's which was almost in the centre of the town opposite the swimming baths ( long gone too) and is now a mixture of A30 dual carriageway and Tesco's. Huish Park is quite a way outside the town on an industrial estate so it became no longer possible to have a few beers ( Mermaid, Wine Vaults, George etc ) then walk 5 mins to the ground for a match which I understand was a big reason for the drop in attendance ( wife would go shopping, husband to the match and they'd meet up a couple of hours later for an evening out) though by then I was back in East London . Used to go to a few away games on the outskirts of London during the 80's ( eg Wokingham, Dulwich, Kingstonian ) as it was too far to travel for home games . I only visited Huish Park once and the game was called off due to snow !! . Hate the fact that so many old grounds are closing and particularly the Boleyn Ground being sold and moving to Stratford. Gave up my season ticket this year at West Ham after 20+ years as I can't stand the new place and the way top level football has been turned into a money machine benefiting a few rather than a sport to be enjoyed by many. Will spend more time watching local clubs like Hemel Hempstead, Leverstock Green.

Problem is over ambition Small population and not going to draw fans. From far away. Same will happen to forest Green . It's a lesson all clubs must learn From them Look at the vauxhall conference league 30 years ago and try find them now . It's life

Yeovil not a big town but it has a large catchment area with no competition. Championship was a step too far, were are a big enough club to sustain League 2 imo.

Our start in NLS currently has 2 home wins with gates of 3412 and 3315 (which we've not seen on a Tuesday for a long time). Today v Maidstone could well be even higher.

Thanks for the lind remarks. Our opening home fixtures have had gates of well over 3000 and we won them both. Today's gate could be even higher. We have a rarity of having 4 home fixtures in a row as Maidstone asked us to reverse their home fixture as they are having work done on their ground. We have a very good side for this level and hope to return to NLP quickly but it will be far from easy as everyone will want to shoot us down. We still have the stadium and infrastructure to be an EFL club. Martin Hellier has invested a lot of money and hopefully the club's fortunes are back on the up now. We almost went out of business due to an owner who was only interested in the land.

Thanks Tim, it’s very easy to slide down the pyramid with 4 get relegated but only 2 go up from the south league, league champions or playoff winners, tough ask but Yeovil are the biggest club in the league, thanks for your comments 👍🏻⚽️

A correction if I may; it's a longish trek from Yeovil Somerset to Truro, the county town of Cornwall 😂 Nice club,tho we lost 0-2 there just two weeks ago😮

Ok, Cornwall takes ages to get to from anywhere, however i presume it’s an easier away trip then Dover, Dartford or Maidstone???

Its a real shame Yeovil Town have dropped down the leagues, again. I remember the old Huish Park in the town centre, with its sloping pitch and at the new Huish watching Yeovil beating AFC Barnet in the equivalent of this very league some 35 odd years ago, in what was effectively promotion decider to go up to the old Vauxhall Conference (now National League). That night some 12500 turned up to watch YTFC win. Then, many years later the run to The Championship for a club the size of Yeovil was the stuff of dreams. I only get to see them 2 or 3 times a season now, living hundreds of miles away, but they have a place in my heart.

Real shame to see Yeovil now in the Conference south. They also had a good crowd whilst in the Conference. Something went wrong there badly. Hope they go up at the first count, and stabalise again in the Conference
