@Epik yes many are but that’s why they should be tested children aren’t a thing where “maybe I should have this” and the way that it is talked about in society especially to the ones giving birth or that can give birth is inappropriate and treated as it’s just a thing to do on a Saturday night. Plus mannnnnnny ppl including myself were brought up around terrible ppl but I took the stance to not put that on others especially a child that would be it’s own being in a new world so like things like “ I didn’t have a rule book or i did the best I can “ are told to children of abuse daily after they leave the house and now have to use thousands of dollars in therapy for something and someone they had no control over and with ppl they were meant to feel loved and protect and safe and cared for. Yet they are told to technically baby and coddle that same person who were supposed to control themselves at an adult age …. I have to factor in that after I leave this house that I have to do daily check ins with the sibling I am leaving because Ik for a fact the he is not going to be raised right and he has his on mental issues with not being able to deal with stress and shuts down because of them I have no sympathy for the parents because they have been told for years about it and after have two daughters that have attempted suicide multiple times because of them they have never once fixed themselves but having only gotten worse. I’m trying best to get out with just a bit of happiness yet but you know how money goes but along with that just constant arguements for no reasons after multiple conversations of try to sympathize with narcissists even tho they didn’t want daughters and wanted a son ik as soooon as he shows any type of feminine attributes or comes out in anyway I would fear for his safety .I could give two shits about someone that can’t see the way that ppl react to them especially if they have had full education

The terror of this game is how relatable the isolation, doubt, routine, surprises, mundanities, and inability to tell apart people, events, and history are. One thing I absolutely fear is to become insane, because I know how close I've already been brought, and that without proper care or communication I could find myself over the precipice. I hope all of you can be aware of any traumas or illnesses harbored in your mind. Don't be scared to ask for help. You won't believe how many kind people there are that are willing to help you. In the end people are abstract minds living through physical bodies and senses, so it's inevitable that we'd have to learn how to reconcile the two. What I've learned is that the body and mind reflect whatever condition the other is in, so my advice would be to notice how your body and mind react to each other

There's a ton of hidden clues that tell the true story of this. So if you reading this Berlin hope it clarifies. As we know Martha never existed and neither did what happened with the White Lady or Lapo. The White Lady was a sense of escapism and Lapo never existed. The letters written by him are in Giulia's handwriting. The White Lady was just an outward representation of her own traumas that she had unknowingly repressed. Her true story as well as the story fabricated through mental illness and meth hallucinations show direct parallels to the White Lady's portrayal. This is apparent in how the events in game and portrayed through the puppet show were not what the nanny had told through stories. Giulia added those details to fit her own narrative and fabrication. It was an escape. It's also heavily implied through clues that the entire family was taking methamphetamines. There are pills found in the mother's and father's possession as well as within Giulia's lockbox. This was a drug deemed illegal in Italy but sold freely through German channels. So her mother's fits of rage as well as Giulia's outbursts make more sense as that is a symptom of meth addiction. Lastly, you chose that you weren't sure I'd the soldier event happened. It did. Her shooting her mother, burying her, uncovering her repressed memories, and being found by the soldiers did happen. If you see in that very last cutscene of Giulia speaking you can see where her lip was repaired since it was busted and torn from the beating she received from the soldiers. For Berlin and anyone reading, hope that was an interesting read and clarified a few missing holes in the game's story that were overlooked!

I think there's a bit of interpretation to be made here. The letter to Irene from the nanny is ALSO in the same fonts that Giulia/Martha write in, so it's possible the developers were also just recycling their fonts. And if Lapo doesn't exist, I think the side quests with him and the partisans make less sense. Why would she have been doing all of those things like with the telegraph machine if Lapo was never real, unless she was just playing their side all along? And why would she have been outside, and thus shot wearing the partisan armband, if Lapo was not real, unless she was a partisan herself? Also the phone call she makes after his death to the other partisans only makes sense if Lapo is real, and Irene also mentions Lapo in that phone call with the priest and suggests they Giulia and Lapo are doing things "friends wouldn't do". Unless we take like half the game as a hallucination, a bunch of it doesn't make much sense.

What she said about “your mind tries to protect you but ends up turning you into a monster” or whatever the fuck the quote was, is so accurate for mental illnesses like DID. I wasn’t sure about how I would like this game, based on how tedious some tasks seemed, but as someone who has a dad who suffers from schizophrenia, I really hope this game reshapes the way some people view those with these awful illnesses.

There is a theory that Martha didn’t and never existed as when Irene is giving birth in the puppet show we see that she only gives birth to one child and we also see Irene beating Giulia when she was six or seven so bad that led her to create the alter personality that was “Martha” her twin sister, who couldn’t speak or hear. When Giulia becomes pregnant with Lapo’s baby, the sense of guilt causes Martha to resurface. As Martha, she develops the plan to provoke Irene into killing her, "protecting" Giulia from the shame she feels. There is also a scene when Giulia bleeds in her bed signifying a miscarriage of the pregnancy and that it was all her.

I got it was the opposite, when her mother found her by the lake she called her Martha, she is also named Martha on the puppet show when her mother hit her and her head broke revealing another head inside it (a split personality) after that Giulia first appears to receive all of the abuse as a way of protection. She was Martha and Giulia was an alter ego, there was never a dead sister.

Anyone else think that Guilia has did or mpd? Before the mom was killed, she kind of insinuated that Martha doesn't exist, and I think Martha is just one of Guilia's personalities. Which is why she has gaps in her memory and is often confused. I thought Martha was “favored more” by the mother bc that’s when the mom was being nice to her and “Guilia” came forward when the mom was being abusive which would explain why she thinks the mom hates her but loves martha. And then Lapo knows bc he can’t tell the personalities apart which is why they both become pregnant even though only “martha” did the do with Lapo. ( my boyfriend also think Lapo is related to her bc he was buried with her family that’s why the baby is deformed ) What I don’t understand is how it’s possible the family knew of both girls and they were sisters

Having dealt with mental issues since I was a child, I dislike when mental illness is used as a way to scare audiences. It portrays those suffering as monsters rather than humans with invisible (and frequently untreated) disabilities. However, I think this game handled mental illness pretty well to some degree. Growing up and living day to day with mental illnesses is an isolating experience, esp if those around you don't understand what you're going through or you have no one you feel you can talk to. Your mind will conjure up reasonings, whether rational or irrational, for nearly everything you do or that happens to you in an attempt to reassure/soothe yourself. I could go on a long tangent about this topic but instead I want to say thank you, Berlin, for playing and tackling this heavy story of someone who suffered from immense trauma and abuse. Your videos have been a huge help in uplifting my moods these days and I really enjoyed your playthrough of this. :')

finished the video ! I doubt anyone will see this but here is my mini theory, with a very limited understanding of DID that could very well be incorrect and if it is, feel free to mention so below ! : martha and giulia are the same person and always have been, but I think giulia is an alter that martha created in her mind due to extreme trauma caused by her mother, or maybe she is disassociating in some way from herself. martha could not speak because of this trauma, and giulia gave her a voice to stand up for herself. we find out giulia’s room is locked (symbolizing part of her brain or traumas that are repressed) and the key is found only after the mother dies, at which point giulia/martha relives her painful memories that her mind has been protecting her from through her puppet theatre. also ! giulia and martha share a room with two beds, both with very identical sides, and it’s mentioned that they sometimes switch beds. perhaps changing who is fronting that day? I’m not sure. more logically than all of this though, remember those pill bottles laying around? the pill is called pervitin, and it is essentially meth, and causes hallucinations. a bottle of this was locked in “martha’s” lockbox, so I’m assuming she was taking it as well.

This game truly hits different. My girlfriend is currently struggling with parental abuse from her past and has been self-harming. It is very sad and sometimes I cry about it. She's even contracted DID. She's almost went all the way but she didn't go through with it. I've spent many nights sleepless, crying. I''ve also felt the need to self-harm because life hit me like a ton of bricks. Thankfully she is in therapy and getting better. I just wanted to say my piece. Thanks for reading.

I think the whole thing about you being concerned about calling her crazy before figuring out about her having a mental illness was what the game was aiming for... as a society we call people 'crazy' too often without knowing their past and everything they have gone through. I think we were all thinking she was crazy at the same points you were, but maybe this has made us realise that we shouldn't be so quick to assume. Thanks for sticking the game out even when it was slow, by reading the comments you can see how many people it's touched.

When I really think about the white lady and consider Giulia's situation, I don't believe that she was nothing more than folklore that Gulia really clung to so she could gain some type of answers or clarification that she wasn't crazy (though even the white lady was talking to her like she was insane at some points). As berlin said, the white lady gave no real input, just confirmed what was on her mind, but once it was confirmed it became reality to her. A significant part of this game was not reality, Giulia was making up scenarios to aline with Martha, her own self, being dead. Even if the white lady encounters were real there she had no connection with Martha's death, besides being in the same lake. You don't even talk about her again after you summon her.

Horror games are so great cause of the ability to scare you in the moment that causes you to feel that adrenaline rush, and you start to feel comfort and hope in finishing the game. But psychological horrors are a brand of its own because fear doesnt truly hit you until you are in your most vunerable moment, alone with your thoughts. and it shows you the where the real horror game starts and that is harder to escape. Her talking to herself in the at the end almost seem like she was giving herself some form of clarification in the path of healing. Also I am questioning whether or not her mother had some type of mental illness. If she did, mental illness wasn't something that really was recognize during that time period, so maybe her mother was able to recognize that something was mentally wrong with her daughter and wanted to help her. There is so much I want to say about this game but overall it give it an 8 out of 10.

You don't need to apologize for calling Giulia crazy. Serial killers and irl people who do terrible things commonly have severe mental health issues, but that does not make them good people. Giulia wasn't a good person, and she never had a chance to live a normal life she deserved. I have BPD (a personality disorder) and I still have to sift through my memories sometimes. I hope it gave everyone who played something to take away as a lesson.

Right?! These are debilitating mental illnesses and you don't just "get released" at the point it becomes manageable with medications. You'd need life long supervision. And that's even minus any run ins with the law. If your check in's and or living arrangements became court ordered, it's a wrap. It may hurt feelings but we shouldn't lie about this kind of stuff. It's overall more dangerous.

I have few similar experiences. Growing up I used to live next to a cemetery, one that dates back to the American revolution and the civil war. When I say next to I mean my house was the last on a dead end street leading into the entrance of the cemetery. My best friend/next door neighbor, her house used to be the old mortuary and funeral home, and across the street was an abandoned factory where they made the head stones And this scary old grouchy lady owned and lived in a mansion behind it. Anyway I was always home alone at night once I was around 12-13 my mom would go to work. When I was 15 like any other night after coming home from my friends house and getting ready for bed I was in the kitchen. I started to hear what sounded like whistling coming from the basement through the hv/ac vent. So to make sure I hadn’t left something on or it wasn’t just the Tv in another room, I went and turned everything off. It silent for a moment Then I heard the whispering of What sounded like two men talking amongst themselves, couldnt make out what they were saying. But at points it was almost threatening sounding and like they were saying my name. Then the whistling got loud AF. After that I called my mom crying and begging her to please come home from work, I had never done that for any of the other times something weird happened. It went on for like 20min. I was too afraid to even move from the kitchen staring at the vent where the sounds were coming from. I basically stayed on the phone until it stopped and locked myself in my room. That was one of the scariest incidents I had at that house, most of the other incidents were passive. Even my friends today will tell me stuff they saw or heard there by themselves. I know I had a group of friends over we all went in the basement and we would hear heavy foot steps going back and forth on the floor above they would all get freaked out. No matter what floor we were on it would be that way.

@@hannahtownsend2106 if you want a great KZbin that is very informative and funny that can ease the talks about death and especially good death “Ask a Mortician” is great way to bridge that fear of the inevitable. Also on Netflix a great show is “Casketeers” just shows how other cultures compared to American deal with death. when I first moved there i hated it and was scared. My mom did not warn me at all that’s where we would be living. But after living there for a few months and making friends I felt safe. I would play in the cemetery w/the kids on the block. We would sled on the hill in the entrance, ride our bikes on the walking paths and road, Clean the headstones and take care and talk to ones that no one visited especially the children. We made a game of cleaning , how many we could do and how clean we get them, pick up knocked over head stones as well. We would get angry at the landscapers bc we would clean up their mess and think it’s not hard to come back or avoid getting the grass all over their stones tht completely covered their names. There was a pet cemetery there as well and after my family dog died we buried her there. I met a family one time and they thanked me for keeping their toddler company. They hadn’t visited him for 2 years after he died, guess it was too much. Probably the weirdest experiences I had in that cemetery were that of the living. Someone impersonating a cop in a old unmarked car asking me to look for a lost dog and to help him trying to get me into the car. I noped out and told my mom. I was riding my bike another time and came across someone who was having a heart attack while visiting a grave of someone they knew with their wife. Had a 15-16 year old boy bully me when i was 10. Around the entrance of the cemetery, He Put a stick in my back tire as I was riding at a good speed causing me to get thrown forward hitting my crotch against the t of the handlebars then I fell over on the concrete. Of course he had roped my crush in on it who was my age. They were circling around me, and the teenager was calling me names, I was just laughing it off trying to get away to go home, I didn’t notice the sticks until I was close to home one-of the final times they circled me then I speed off to get away. One of the the most painful things I’ve experienced on a very different level.

I definitely think this game in the slowness and timeline definitely was something crazy but beautiful to see; it like time seems to slow down for people but yet everything else around us keeps moving faster and I think the game showed that perfectly! with the war happening around them and the constant radio playing truly shows the fastness of it but then when we see stuff from Guilas point of view its slow and almost crazy because of her mental health! Just a super beautifully put together game!

Lowkey wish this game had more scares. It almost felt like a mystery game for a while instead of a horror game. But the story is still crazy (I kinda knew it all along but not every detail) which I appreciate. Loved the gameplay

Thank you for sharing the story of your friend that passed. It is healthy to talk about these things, the truth about how we feel should never be shameful or tabu. Love you Berlin

Crazy how I find this right after I start thinking I need a therapist. I've experienced horrible things too, I've almost done things I would spend my life paying for if I didn't take the initiative to take care of my mind... But yes, talk to someone if you're experiencing thoughts of harming yourself and or others.

Wow this was a great a great game that had amazing attention to detail. Only till the very end everything made sense even the little things like the crow and the sparrow (I think that what type of bird it was) was a representation of Martha and Giulia. And that random scene of the crow killing the sparrow was showing Giulia taking over. Which also why she put the dead sparrow into the casket with Martha.

39:26 Sort of a similar experience happened to me when I was in high school. My Grandpa had passed away during the summer before I had started my 11th grade year. I didn't talk with my Grandpa too much because of a language barrier so when he had passed I wasn't hit as hard as my other family members were. But during my 11th grade year I had gotten really into film and especially into video editing. One day I'm in class editing this project my group and I were working on, and I feel this weird weight or sensation in my chest and I start crying in class. I couldn't figure out why I was crying so when my teacher had asked I just instinctively said my grandpa passed away recently. I had felt sad all day after that like a deep regret had just weighed me down. I called my mom once I got home and she was talking to me about my grandpa and then she said something along the lines of "I wish you had found your passion for film while your grandpa was alive, he used to edit film when he was younger". I had no clue that he had a background in film.

that feeling you had, Berlin, may have been guilt. it sounds like that- the heavy feeling you got, like you did something wrong. sounds like you felt (and maybe still feel) guilty about telling your friend what Jeremy thought of her.

Berlin, thank you for playing this game. It was definitely one for the books; it really felt like a period piece of art for sure. We were right there with you for all of it, but again thanks for playing the game. Much love, King! 👑❤️
