Used to listen to the 'Basher' album in the car with the kids on long vacation drives. When they were little, my girls used to say "Daddy, will you dance with me at my wedding to "I Knew the Bride"? Of course I said yes. So fast forward to wedding day (1 down, 1 to go) and she and I did our Father/Daughter dance to "I Knew the Bride"... 5 months later, my kids took me to a Nick Lowe/Los StraightJackets concert at a small intimate club, and when they played this song, my daughter came up with me to the front of the stage and we danced together again... with Nick looking down and laughing with us.... such fun.

Back in the early 1980's I was a "volunteer roadie" for my buddies local band, hefting equipment & amps for free beer & tunes! This song was ALWAYS in their rotation! One of those gigs, I met the gorgeous woman that was destined to be my beloved wife, love of my life! She "went ahead" 7 years ago. DAMN, I miss her so! THANKS for the look back!

@LazyIRanch 2 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry for the loss of you dad, who had great taste in music. My fiance and I planned a simple wedding, at the little church built in 1882 that my great grandparents attended, the reception would be 1/2 mile up the dirt road at Freyburg Hall, the community hall and biergarten my great-grandfather built around the same time. It has a little stage where my brother's band would play. I had one request: I wanted them to play this song, but I wanted to sing it! I really was going to wear the "gown that my Momma wore", but without any changes. My fiance died unexpectedly in 1989, before that day we planned. Two years later, I did get married, but at the courthouse. I did wear momma's dress, but that day wasn't joyous. worst mistake of my life. Long ago, but I wish I could go back and change it. I only had one true love, so I shouldn't have settled for less.

Good evening Paige. My name is Maggie Grants wife. I just came across your comment and cried because this was going to be my dad's and I wedding dance or unbelievable by RIo Diamond we hadn't decided yet. Long story short he died unexpectedly before this could happen. Would it be possible to make arrangements for me to see your video with your Dad therefore giving me a opportunity for closure. I guess just seeing it through another woman would give me some glimpse of what would have been us.

Nick Lowe is a real funny guy. Met him in the late 80's in Austin during a recording project. He had no clue what I was referring to when I said he reminded me of clean cut Mr. Darling. He never saw The Andy Griffith Show! Once he figured it out he got a big kick out of it. Great producer too, good ear.

definitely my favorite Lowe song. Backed by Huey Lewis and his entire band (on the record - not in the video) and with a blasting Huey Lewis harmonica solo - what could go wrong ?

I had NO idea *Nick Lowe* wrote, played, and sang this song, though I've known the song since it first played on the radio. Who would guess this great *(classic!)* American Southern sound came from an *Englishman?!*

I saw him too with Rockpile, around 1980 in Leicester. We got backstage afterwards and met them all. I can still remember making a proper cunt of myself when I asked him if he had heard any Elvis Costello, Yes he said, I'm his producer!
