I remember back in 2016, i was in the boy scouts and we decided to go on a week long canoe trip down the st. croix river. We packed basics like flour, wheat, sugar and a metric shit ton of MREs for a week long trip. As the stupid and non-thinking teens we were, we didnt bother to look up anything about what goes into the MREs, nor did we bother to read more then a sentence on the box. We ended up getting to the end destination, a public camp grounds, 2 days early, After a day of talking we split into 2 groups, half decided to pack up in the trucks and head back to town 200 miles across state. leaving a total of 4 people in the camp grounds to fuck around for 2 days. Well by the next morning, at 3 am I woke up to the worst abdominal pain ive ever felt. I got up and jogged down the to the bathroom a mile down the trail. I sat in that bathroom until 6 am. When i was finished i felt like i had be fisted by a pissed of Russian grizzly bear wearing a Freddy Krueger glove. After getting back to camp i was met with 3 other dudes contemplating going to the ER. You see, come to find out the MREs that we had gotten did have the gum in it. But as a collective of dipshits who didnt read more the main meals name and hated Mint gum, we tossed every single packet in the trash. We ended up having to call the other leader and scouts to report to them what was inevitable. I remember them laughing their ass's off thinking were were fucking with them, until a hour later when one of the scouts had their parents run them to the hospital. We learned just how bad we had fucked up the hard way. MREs are great for military use and at that they work pretty good for long trips out in nature. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST, chew the gum at the end of the day, itll save youre ass... literally
