it's cause you're only exposed to mainstream songs. korean indie scene has always been lit. also, plenty of indie music /artists have become more mainstream nell, jaurim, jangkiha, etc. even seotaeji and drunken tiger's music were not mainstream in their time.

@@aerokpc I'm not actually only exposed to mainstream Korean songs, I used to listen to K-pop but I don't really now. And I've tried several Korean indie artists but they simply didn't click with me, including some of the artists you've mentioned. Yerin for some reasons stands out to me, I think she has a unique voice and that she's a very skilled vocalist, I find her songs very entertaining to listen to. Also, her music has a lot of textures, she stands out by the production of her songs to me. But that's my opinion.

@@poesie_paienne 1) You are entitled to your opinion about Yerin or whoever else you listen to, I'm not invalidating your musical preferences. 2) If you're truly "not only exposed to mainstream Korean songs," then you wouldn't really be qualified to say Yerin's music is a breath of fresh air in Korean music, because you're saying "Korean music" and not saying "mainstream Korean music." Exposure just means that more people and industries are playing the song(s). Yes, some songs are crafted to target a bigger market, but some artists (like Yerin and others I've mentioned) don't really do that. They just simply make music, and the market caught onto it. You see the difference? 3) Therefore my point is that to say "Yerin is truly a breath of fresh air in Korean music" is an insult to the larger gamut of Korean musical varieties that there are. Perhaps you meant to say "Yerin is truly a breath of fresh air in the same old K-pop that oversaturates the mainstream K-pop market by turning out similar kinds of songs," in which case I think I would agree. 4) Finally, even these "fresher" artists were influenced by mainstream media and music, especially the ones I've mentioned, as they have made such noticeable marks on the Korean music scene, whether someone liked it or not.
