Happy Birthday Patrick Moraz born on June 24, 1948. He is a Swiss musician, film composer and songwriter best known for his tenures as keyboardist in the rock bands Yes and The Moody Blues. Moraz was asked to join Yes, following the departure of Rick Wakeman in May 1974. Moraz watched the band play the middle section of "Sound Chaser", which he said was "Absolutely unbelievable. To experience that - the truest surround experience I had ever encountered as an observer and listener". He was then asked to come up with an opening to it, and what he played ended up on the album. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Moraz

Sound Chaser has one of my favorite Howe solos. It has true drama, interspersing fast sections, and building tension with slow sections. Makes you wonder "where's he going to go next?" Modern guitarists should listen to it. Constant shred wears me out.

I really like what Moraz brought to Yes. Relayer is a fine album. This complex track almost has a jazz feel in places. This track is clearly built on Chris's driving bass line.If you like Moraz, check out the 'Refugee' album when he formed a trio with two of Keith Emerson's 'Nice' members.

'Sound Chaser' has got to be the most intense jazz rock fusion ever done, and to start a concert with it was totally radical. But the music scene was going through upheaval, with punk seizing the spotlight, and rock and roll losing its dominance. This band was above the pop scene, on a level of their own, symphonic rock, with a strong dash of jazz. The album 'Relayer' is so unique it is almost transcendent, and I believe it was far ahead of its time. I used to consider the album to be the most inaccessible of all Yes albums, but many of the young people I know like 'Relayer' a great deal.

At least Chris was. I never saw him so animated, he was a wild man. The Ohio show was the best of the 5. They filmed the entire show with at least 6 awesome cameras, so someone has the films, but they have not released them. Ken, there is a decent audience recording (for the era) of this show, 6/23/75 Long Beach Arena, California. Matter of fact, I think it might have my favorite live version of "To Be Over" - the vocals are the best I've heard of all the versions I have. Absolutely gorgeous. The show may be on KZbin. But note that my old cassette tape version is better quality than the 2 cd version that Japan's Highland label put out about 20 years ago. They used a source tape that had audio "bleed through" from the other side of their source. My cassette doesn't have this, or it's not as pronounced. Just sayin'.

@brianhorner83497 жыл бұрын
Obviously the audio here was taken off the board for some reason other than making this video and is not well-balanced. But ...the music itself ....WHO DOES THIS?! This song is amazing in the studio version on the original L. But, to play something like this LIVE? Uh ...NOT easy, folks. Not at all. VERY daring. To this day, no one but YES can pull this off! Listen to how many dense, rich, complex things are going on as this song changes from one opulent cornucopia of sonic joy and intensity to another -like 3 or 4 songs all playing at once and taking turns dancing with each other. And yet it all holds together with an amazing magnificence and does so with stunning, athletic virtuosity on the parts of each musician? WHO DOES THIS? Who even TRIES to pull something like this off? No one.
@nickavenoso78512 жыл бұрын
I don’t think this is the board. I think what we are hearing is the monitor mix. The drastic change in instrument volumes and the different instruments going in and out of the mix made me think this. Nobody could pull off something like this live. There’s so many little things going on at once and to be able to do that plus everything else is true mastery.

Jon sounds fine without YES. Can't say the same for the current incarnation of YES. Even when Chris was still alive they just were not the same. I just hope Jon doesn't push himself too much. I'm sure he will take care of himself and not over do it. I know YES is still supposedly touring but IMO, YES died with Chris. Steve Howe is the only original left. It's just not YES anymore. The last album they did should have been called "Yes Songs for Nursing Homes".
