I recently played this for a friend that had never been exposed to this kind of music before. She kept asking, "Is this still the same song?" over and over, amazed that so much can go into one song. Seems I created a prog fan. :)

Many, including myself, consider this masterpiece to be the single greatest album of all time. I bought it the day it came out, and I still play the cd every time I'm driving. I still have that original album. I cannot adequately express the impact this one album has had on my life. I saw it performed live as well. Listen to Yes...really listen...it will change your life. I just did a KZbin search and found at least a half dozen or more first reactions to this album. It is pretty cool to see another generation discover this music that has been part of our (us old folks) mythos for 50 years. When this was made Prog Rock didn't exist yet, these were just young men living out their dream and investing time and energy into something that was more engaging than 3 minutes long ear worm constructed on just 3 chords and a cloud of dust. There are many amazing things about this music and especially this album from harmonics, dissonance, and syncopation. First it is unbelievable that a record company invested in it, then second was that this is just 5 talented musicians and their visions. This is Yes' concerto of hope to modern times.

This was great! A band I recommend you might want to check out is Black Country New Road. They are a new(ish) band and so far have only 2 studio albums. They use instruments like saxophone, keys, violin, etc and I think they're great, check them out when you can!

This album is so unbelievable. I literally saw it well looking though records at a market and recognized the cover and new a few of yes’ songs. It was on $9 and changed my life. Second I heard those birds I knew I was in for a trip

Fragile and The Yes Album are both terrific albums. I highly recommend. You seem to enjoy the melodic side of things, so to that end, I'd recommend accessible prog groups like Caravan, Renaissance, Curved Air and possibly Mike Oldfield.

With such grandiose artists, I don't have a favorite album (I'm not a ranker who has to see everything in black and white), but often have an album for all moods that catches me and maybe two albums that I have to totally let myself go into to really enjoy it. Close To The Edge belongs in both categories, just awesome. Relayer falls into the second category and I've only really fallen in love with it over the last few years. As some have written, it would be better to go a bit chronologically with such legendary artists with The Yes Album and Fragile, then you would also get a complete picture of the development of a band. King Crimson (with guitarist Greg Lake) pretty much listened through; I would choose something from The Nice (with keyboardist/ synthi Keith Emerson) like the first self-titled album and Five Bridges and only then move on to the fantastic Emerson, Lake And Palmer /prog band. It's definitely worth it. Whatever you decide, I look forward to rediscovering certain new aspects. Thank you!!!

You're always asking "what was that?". 😂Just accept it, feel it, explain it later is what I say. The more crazy prog has a lot of songs in them that lay down one riff in one mood and then lay down another riff right after with a completely opposite mood. This song is a great example, it can be ugly or beautiful

Rick Wakeman was a god on the keyboards. Pure genius. But I prefer his work even more with the Strawbs, the band he was with before joining Yes. If you need convincing, just listen to the start of The Hangman And The Papist off the album, From The Witchwood… I guarantee you’ll won’t be able to stop.

I'll just say this music is very much a product of the late 60's / early 70's. You don't hear music like this anymore. Very reflective of its time. If you enjoyed this, listen to Yessongs, which was recorded live, is much higher energy, and I think much better.

funny, i actually found out about yes by joking around and looking up random shit. but it actually sounds pretty cool, i might listen to it a bit more also, completely unrelated, but you should listen to Since I Left You by The Avalanches. its their first album and jt was made out of only samples because they couldnt afford any equipment at the time. 3500 samples were used in the making of it, and its honestly insane how well produced it is

For more great Progressive rock from the 70's Emerson, Lake & Palmer TARKUS is the ultimate song. However, a more mild group that is just as spectacular is Renaissance. Try Ashes Are Burning, Song Of Scheherazade, and The Sisters.

Possibly the most talented band of all time in this incarnation. All four instrumentalists were probably top three's at the time, with Howe and Squire arguably being No. 1 on their respective instruments. Maybe Rick Wakeman too. Bruford's hard to rate because his style is so different from the other biggies at the time, but talent-wise he's right up there with Bonham and Moon. If memory serves Steve Howe won Guitar Player's "best all-around guitarist" award five years in a row.

I've listened (key here is listened) to this song and album probably over 100 times in my life and It's just as wonderful now as it was when I first heard it at age 16. I'm going to tell you this now, you will be doing the same. This album affects everyone who hears it in profound ways. It opens the door to other music and expands you're musical curiosity, how think of music will never be the same. It will forever a part of your life with multiple listens every year until you're hearing fades or you die, but the joy of your listening experiences over those years will carry on with you. As you said there is something very spiritual about this album and you experience it even if you're not spiritual. Glad to have you a member of the club. PS: Yes can get...lets say overly ambitious on albums going forward , Tales From Topographic Oceans was the follow up to CTTE and it was released on vinyl as double album with one song on each side of the 4 sides and I only recommend sides 1 and 4. There was a period of more pop oriented songs in the 80's but the music still had some of Yes's uniqueness, Owner of a Lonely Heart comes to mind. They will hit and miss many times after CTTE as band members come and go and then come back only to leave again. My suggestion is to go backward to The Yes Album and Fragile and maybe Time and a Word which preceded both and then move forward. Yes has had a crazy musical history and unfortunately not all good. You know, most people watching reaction videos actually want to hear the song - we're curious what you think, but we're either drawn to give another listen to an old favorite, or want to give the music a chance on a first listen along with you. He might have interesting things to say, but I'd never get there - I genuinely find it unlistenable to chop up great music every few minutes. Yes I've heard it a million times, but it jangles my nervous system and sense of flow; and a lot of folks hold this dear to heart, myself included. Just not pleasurable for me. I thought of it as respecting him to let him know, I presume he wants to expand listenership.
