Ernie Isley on guitar is very under appreciated guitarist and song writer. Ron Isley is of course a incredible vocalist but I always feel Ernie should get mentioned way more than does.

Yeah, and because these guys’ voices and vocal arrangements are so off-the-scale great, it kind of makes people forget how great the arrangements and virtuosity of their playing was. There aren’t a lot of groups comparable to how good the Isleys both played and sang.

1976. College dorm. I’m a freshman. Most days I’m rockin’ out to Clapton, Van Morrison, Traffic, Springsteen, the Floyd, and a hundred other performers. Down the hall one night at about 2:00 a.m., THIS music is emanating from a Senior’s room. I was drawn to it. Strolled down the hall. I stood outside and listened. I’ve never forgotten this song. It was unlike anything I’d ever heard. One of the great sounds of my lifetime.

3 quick Isley notes... 1. They didn't just have those sensual ballads you guys love...they also made some of the funkiest jams of their era. (FIGHT THE POWER, IT'S YOUR THING, LIVE IT UP, etc.) 2. They have made some of the greatest cover versions ever. (SUMMER BREEZE, HELLO IT'S ME, FIRE AND RAIN, etc.) 3. They have been making tunes since THE MID 50's!!!!!!!!....their first hit was SHOUT in 1959. The next major hit was TWIST AND SHOUT (another classic cover song) in 1962. They have one of the longest active runs in music. Salute the legends.....🫡

Guitarist and youngest of the brothers, Ernie Isley, is the last living member of the triple threat of best friends and legendary ground breaking music legends and HALL OF FAMERS. "Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Hazel, Ernie Isley." Hendrix started his music career with the Isley Brothers and lived with the family a few years. The 3 learned from each other but had very different styles. Forever Rest in Peace EDDIE and JIMI !!!! FUNK ON BROTHER ERNIE !!!!

Come on guys The Isley Brothers have been around since the 50s. Long before rap, EWF, Stevie Wonders and others. The Beatle's first hit record was an Isley Brothers song called "Twist and Shout". And that was in 1962. This group's legacy is untouchable.
@jazshas6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the history lesson. People always ascribe all of this greatness to the Beatles, who wrote some great music, but they drew their inspiration from Black artists because people back in those days were still listening to singers like Perry Cuomo.

A splinter band that came from the Isley brothers was, 'Isley Jasper Isley' started in 1984 by brother-in-law Chris Jasper (keyboards), Ernie Isley (lead guitar), and Marvin Isley (bass). The have a really, really great "baby makin'" song entitled "Insatiable Woman" (1985). They are also the band that made the classic hit, "Caravan of Love" (1985). Jay, you guys are right about that rabbit hole. You have a long way to go to hear more of their best. They have been active since 1954. You have heard “Who’s that Lady” from 1974, now listen to the original that was recorded by the Isley Brothers in 1964. Yeah, they remade their own song. “Shout” is another great song they recorded in 1959. Hot dance tune! FYI: by now, you have to know that Ernie Isley has that Jimi Hendrix sound on his guitar because in the early years Jimi played for the Isley Brothers.
