Interviewers like this really tested the patience of great musicians like these guys. It's just what they had to endure to promote records & tours.

This clip reminds me of why I hated this blonde jerk. So full of himself, obviously looking in the mirror all day and smiling at himself while doing his hair. Appaling, and the reason why I had to stop watching MuchMusic at the time and to top it all off, he even thought he was funny.

God I love bill bruford he is my favorite drummer of all time. And rip Chris squire , fish out of water is one of the best albums ever.

I am not going to comment on how brilliant Yes were/are nor how much their music means to a guy my age but watching this just how cool were Jon and Rick in the late 80's!!!

The interviewer remaining remarkably upbeat considering Bruford was moving inexorably towards punching his lights out, haha

You're observant. Bruford can be intimidating in interviews. This guy thankfully survived his interactions with him.

Best interview I've seen so far of ABW&H.

Bruford is brutal here about the official rival Yes run by Chris Squire :they make music to suit the business world of demographics, marketing and advertising. Whereas in our band (ABWH) we make music we care about. If we didn’t we couldn’t sleep, ‘we’d feel queasy’. Quite an attack. Glad the 2 bands made it up in years to come.

I was an 11 year old Yes fan around this time and I remember seeing this when it originally aired. Didn't realise just how silly Steve Anthony was at the time though. ☺

Some great sharing from another time and place (Cue the HotS Intro!). My take on the interviewer (he might have been a Somebody): He's prepared, but sounds scared to death! My guess: He's talking to the most influential musicians he's EVER met and doesn't want to F* up. He survives.

Great watching Bill and Rick, they are so smug and condescending. Jon is a little better. I wouldn't want to get into a conversation with Bill if I didn't have my wits about me.

Crazy to see the underlying tensions between Bill and Rick both trying to lead but bouncing off back and forth meanwhile Jon is just stuck in the middle but playing it totally cool like it's all good man lol such an awkward interview if not a little stressful seeing how the two interact just onscreen and how it must have been like behind the scenes. Like hell, even the interviewer had a hard time getting a complete word in but then when he does he goes on and cuts Rick off mid answer like shit, let the man complete a sentence. Love the TV in the background of the interview, really let's you know you're in the 80s! Really this whole thing is gold. Bill cupping his balls @9:00 because he doesn't know where to place his arm since they're sitting next to each other like sardines is hilarious. End of the interview, Jon is the only one I'm left liking.
@georgesonm17744 жыл бұрын
haha Bill at 9:00 lol. BTW, I didn't know about the tension between Bill and Rick - was there any intense dislike? was that a factor in Bill's leaving the band in '72?
