From the YESSONGS album and video. My favorite version of Starship Trooper. Only the end was included in the concert video. I created a whole video using other footage from the show and the real ending. It will have to do unless the original film surfaces.

Yes is not my favorite band, but there’s nothing like them. They reach this mystical place that taps into that British sense of magic and enchantment, better than Led Zeppelin. Their marriage of classical and rock music is wholly original. There’s a version of And You and I here on KZbin that I stumbled on. It took me to a place of pure joy, where I just was carried along by the variations in the theme. They are unequalled in this genre of rock.

Bill Bruford pulled out of this tour just before the band left for the USA, Alan White stepped in at the last minute, and having never played with Yes before, learnt the full set lists within a couple of days, and played drums on this tour and for a long time after....brilliant to see them in their heyday again..just awesome

No love for Keith Emerson? Also a few of Crimson's keyboardist even original Tony Kaye? Prog Rock=constant change in not only the songs but band members. Glad I got to see Wakeman, Emerson and Ian McDonald. Rare breed these keyboardist-very rare breed. Wish Bruford had joined King Crimson from their inception, think he was invited but declined joining" Mabel Greer's Toyshop." That's hear-say of course. Heard a few times at concerts.

Yes stood alone in their prime with progressve rock in musicianship and artistry. No band could come close to the pictures they would paint with their instruments and vocals. An ingredient that only they had blending blues and rock with classical, folk, jazz and fusion. The Ultimate Musicians Band that appealed to the masses in Music. So creative, inspired and influential was the music of the 1970's to me as a teenager. The most amazing decade in all music that will never be matched or ever flourish with musical ideas like that again either

Starship Trooper is probably my single favorite Yes song. It is a powerful, driving epic from beginning to end. Steve Howe is the greatest and most technically brilliant guitarist in rock music history, and he demonstrates his elite-level skill throughout this soaring masterpiece. I am a hard-core ELP and Seventies-era Genesis fan, and I believe that Starship Trooper rivals the outstanding compositions of both those bands. Yes was a rare group of virtuoso musicians and genious-level songwriters. They were and always will be giants in any musical genre.

There's a video now on KZbin I highly recommend for Yes fans. It's "Yes- The Lost Broadcasts- Remastered" The first few songs show Yes, Tony Banks on guitar, playing from Time And a Word. Daniel Lawrence-Thomas There is no holding place in my mind, or way for me to process the reaction that I get from all the people I have met over the years regarding YES. I have met only 3 people in my life who like YES, like I like YES. How can I play this song for people, and have them not at least give the credit for the consummate performance? I can't help it, it tends to color how I think of people who don't like YES. Everybody has their personal preferences, but This Band supersedes mere preference. Their compositions are Masterworks!!

O Ya it's all coming back to me now. Wait. Now close your eyes and remember, think hard. Yes its coming back now. 1975, Fall, Capitol Center outside Washington D.C. Saturday, there's 10 of my closest friends, been partying for hours. My beautiful girlfriend Sara with me. A flask of wine, some "bud" some micro-dot and Yes I remember. Yes, there was probably no other group better in concert then YES. The music, the mellow crowd, and what a show. Good times many, many years ago. I do remember.

Yes, we partied in style those days. Purple crazy, Colombia's finest, gorilla biscuits, etc. and all the great bands in their prime.

Yes was a whole band of virtuoso musicians. All of them amazing at what they do. Steve Howe is an awesome guitar player, Jon Anderson is an exceptional singer with a great voice, Rick Wakeman is absolutely flawless at playing keyboards, Bill Bruford was arguably the one of the pioneers of Progressive rock drumming paving the way for Neil Peart and Chris Squire influenced a Legion of bass players for over 40 years! What an awesome band!

During the recording of this album many of the songs were recorded during a single tour at various locations. I was a sophmore in high school in Ohio when they appeared in Cleveland to a sold out show in which i recall every show was sold out in 72/73. I think this particular piece was recorded in Cleveland mainly on the strength that it was the oncore and there was an individual directly behind us with the most shrill whistle i had ever heard. Piercing and loud. We were 3rd row center stage and then after picking up the album, when my friends were gathered to party a little and listen we all looked at each other with the same look when we heard the whistling at the end of the song. More than a concert to me. It was an expierience like a living creature of immense capacity for love. I am 64 and love to play the drums, and guitar while listening to this album. Certainly one of the best live albums ever!! From one of the greatest bands of all time!!

Anyone who has the balls to think Yes was not one of the most artistically perfect bands ever has never played a musical instrument. Having seen Yes only once, being a former guitar player, I had never seen such perfection in any band. And with well over 100 concerts from 1974 until this weekend, I've seen almost all the great bands. Yes is truly a legend!

It sounds good but explain what's so technically exceptional about it that was different from other great guitarists at that time.

Just found this. My gosh Howe was insanely good! A lot of names are tossed around as the greatest. To me a pointless argument prone to too much subjectivity. I will say this guy was up there with the most skilled. Complex patterns, with speed, and very melodic. More important, is that he played into the songs. It wasn't just a show case for his skills. The whole band was incredible and unique.

Saw yes at Madison Square Garden NYC near 1975. Then saw Wakeman solo. One of my all time favorite bands. Such positive energy, still sounds fresh today. Such great times when an album contained multiple great songs and not just 1 MTV hit to get you to spend you money on. One of a kind sound nothing even comes close, there are some copy bands like starcastle but Yes was and is the real deal. Even the lyrics are other worldly, certainly raises the consciousness level.....Peace.....

Its got to be out there somewhere because they showed the concert with this version of Starship Trooper on British television way back in 1973 or 74 on a show called "The old grey whistle test", I had never heard of the band in those days and so when I watched it as you can imagine I was blown away by it, So i have been a fan ever since.
