Weird Al has said that the way he got his goofy dance move was just genuinely trying to dance like Michael Jackson. Some things were exaggerated for effect, but it's mostly just Weird Al demonstrating how great Jackson really was. I've seen several reaction videos to "Eat It", both from professional musicians and from everyday people. Beth is the first person I've seen who recognized the Thriller reference at the end. Well done. One of the great things about Weird Al's videos is all the Easter Eggs he throws in.

In Australia , Michael Jackson's "Beat It" reached Number 2 on the National charts. Kept from Number 1 by Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse Of The Heart". In 1984, Weird Al's "Eat It" reached Number 1 for 1 week in 1984. Aussies love a novelty song.

Weird Al's original songs are just as good as his parodies. Definitely check them out sometime. Also MJ loved Al's parodies of his songs and gave him access to all sorts of things like sets and people who where part of the original music video.

Things are a bit tough here in the US and I'm checking out Weird AL to keep my spirits up. I was so happy to see your reaction video. AL's so smart and so dedicated to detail, that he creates these perfect parodies, matching the rhythms and rhyme schemes so well that they're masterpieces. Good call posting this, I bet a lot of people are checking out Weird AL during these difficult times.

The alien looking through the window was a jab at Jackson who some would joke was an alien because he was so odd. Years later, Jackson appeared in Men in Black II portraying an agent lobbying to become a part of the Men In Black. And Weird Al not only did a parody of the song, but his parody is actually more hilarious. It's also clever as it mimics so many elements of the original video. He did the same with Jackson's song, "Bad," which he retitled, "Fat."

I have seen that video since it was released and I still occasionally notice little things I had not noticed previously. This time I realized that the one crew just couldn't really get it together. They had to wait and wait for the bus, they weren't even in one of the shots (almost like the actors, themselves, were late) and then this time I realized that they also could only get the rolling door up about 3-4' whereas the other crew strode in confidently. This is the other "leg" of Al's genius. The musical genius was always there but the video genius really ramped up by the mid-late 80s. Watch "Another One Ride The Bus" then this video, then "Fat", then "White And Nerdy", or "Perform This Way". The improvement each time is stunning.

Weird Al also makes fantastic original songs, not just parodies of other artists music . Some of his songs sound like a particular stile or band or singer but are not “rip offs” of any established song by that band. Example : the sing Mr Popiel from In 3D album is a riff of the kind of song the B-52’s woyld sing but not a port of any of their actual songs. And he also did total Original songs that he just ….. did. Christmas at ground zero And biggest ball of twine in Minnesota ate two of my favorites .
