Yeah. In a 40+ year career, the closest thing to a scandal he's had is that time Coolio didn't actually okay his parody of Gangsta's Paradise, and that was more the result of Coolio's agent not communicating with his client than anything Al did.
@Hanneth
@Hanneth Ай бұрын
@@Crazael And even that says a lot about Weird Al. He doesn't have to get permission for any of his parody music. Fair use is sort of a muddy thing which usually has to be proven in court, with a lot of opinions. Fair use explicitly covers parody. That being said, Weird Al has never released a parody song without the direct consent of the artist who made the original song. He has gone to great lengths to contact the artists. If they say no, or he can't contact them, then the song never sees the light of day.

Weird Al is probably the only person in the world who is uncancellable. It's not that he's powerful, it's that he's too brilliant and garners too much respect for his craft. This is Wierd Al's talent. Taking on the verbal tics, the twitches, the moves, everything which makes the original artist recognizable. Writing lyrics which work as well (or better!) than the originals. Doing this in every musical style for decades. And doing this for just about every great artist for the last 40 years. I firmly believe that Al is one of the top talents of our time, but few realize it. Having your own style is rare; being able to duplicate anyone elses style on command is unbelievable.

Yes, and it seems the "body positivity no fat shaming" influencers have been dying from the obesity. Why do we push down cigarette smokers but ok with people who are literally also ruining their health and lives? Do you see how hypocritical people are? You can pick out one thing and say that someone is harming themselves, but then say that another person who is causing as much damage to their body, we can't offend them even though we know they will eventually lose their lives because of us being afraid to offend them. If it saves a life, then it needs to be said.

I love your reaction and have loved your reviews. Keep up the good work. I've seen Al a number of times from Dr. Demento in the early days to his solo concerts. One concert at the Seattle Zoo, many of the attendees were wearing tin foil hats in homage to one of his songs. :)

Weird Al is pretty talented aside from the comedy. “Like a surgeon” is pretty funny also.

Okay, stop it. I loved this song when I was a kid, and I was a very fat kid. Most people are not that damn sensitive.

"Weird Al" is a world-renowned parody artist with 17 Grammy nominations and 5 wins. Trust us, no one is going to cancel you. All of his work stays true to the originals, just amazing. As was your reaction! Thanks and keep doing what you do.

Weird Al is one of the greatest parody artists out there. He's been making music going back to the 80's. I highly recommend you watch the Hamilton polka. he manages to squeeze 13 songs from the play into one song. Given the complexity of the original music, it's amazing to see Weird Al woke his magic to pull even more out of it. and don't worry that Lin Manuel Miranda will be upset. there's a video out there where the two of them were on Jimmie Kimmel's show together and Lin and Jimmy geeked out together because they were long time fans of Weird Al. There are some out there in the musical circles that believe they've hit the peek of their careers because Weird Al made a parody of one of their songs.

I listened to Weird Al on the Dr. Demento radio show when I was a kid, and that was in the 70s.

I was a teen when this came out and a heavy kid. I still am really. I had heavy friends. We all knew this song, loved it, laughed to it, and none of us were ever offended by it. This whole thing of being offended by everything has got to end. Most of us are out of high school. Have been for decades.

There are multiple layers to the album title "Even Worse", because "Fat" is the only parody on the album that parodies an original, all the other parodies on the album are of cover songs.

People weren't so touchy back then...different times, you'd have to be there to understand...Michael helped him with ideas on the video....he got Michaels blessing on this music and video....I watched a program about this.

I've seen Weird Al perform this live a couple times. He has, of his own free will, not to perform this song during his tours anymore. Not because anyone has given him a hard time about it, but because he is a genuinely nice guy.

It wasnt 14 years ago. That was when it was put on youtube. It won a grammy award for best concept music video in 1988. Internet didnt even exist before 1990´s. Also according to bit more googling youtube was invented in 2005.

Weird Al is a genius. So talented and underrated. He pays homage to orig artists in all videos/songs, funny but respectfully done with the music. The OG artists LOVE his parodies. If you do any more Weird Al and not familiar with the song, do a double reaction... 1) to the original 2) the Weird Al version... I think you'll love his other work! Eat it - MJ, Amish Paradise - Coolio, Another One Rides The Bus - Queen, Like a Surgeon - Madonna, etc... Thanks for another great reaction!

Weird Al never got anyone cancelled. Hes the most wholesome of rock stars. PS: MJ liked the idea of this song so much, he let Al use the same sound stage for the video that was used in the original "Bad."

One key to the enduring charm of Weird Al is that he can do satire and parody without being mean-spirited about it. He doesn't put people down, he doesn't jeer. He is clever and absurd without punching down. He stays relatable and that lets us see ourselves in the absurdity and laugh at ourselves. He wouldn't have lasted so long and been so widely beloved if he was mean.
