Azula's combination of commanding confidence and the sharp edge that Grey DeLisle used in the character voice always made Azula feel like early or mid 20s to me despite her character actually being like 14. I think it's just easy to see animated characters as older than they actually are in general.

@elite7329 - I don´t think it´s that... I think the controversy was because he claimed to be a member from a particular tribe, but he didn´t have any of the official papers or right birth certificate to prove it. It was more of a "my grandparents always said that we came from this tribe..." kind of thing. And some people were angry at him because of this, for claiming to be a member, without any papers to prove it... I think.

@pyroguy1104 Жыл бұрын
Each episode of the Netflix show is supposed to be an hour long, and there are 8 episodes. If you subtract the opening sequence and credits, the original animated version of Book 1: Water is 6 hours and 40 minutes, and the live action version will be just under 8 hours. So the new live action version will be an hour and 20 minutes longer than book one of the original show. They’ve given themselves plenty of time to tell the whole story and even flesh it out a bit more.

The only thing the "director who should not be named" got right about the movie was the name pronunciations. Not for English speakers but for a more Asian pronunciation. The only thing I really can't complain about that adaptation.
@agrizan Жыл бұрын
I feel like "right" needs to be in quotes, because in terms of how the names would be pronounced if they were actual people in the respective cultures that inspired parts of the show, yeah the movie is more accurate, but in terms of the in-universe pronunciation, they are just wrong. The correct way to pronounce a name is the way the person, or in this case character, who has the name does.
@rnkelly36 Жыл бұрын
@@agrizan The only problem with some stories "In Universe" in most fiction is that it is skewed to a western mostly American audience. Avatar by the creators was based on various Asian and Inuit cultures but because it was an American cartoon everyone spoke English with an American accent and all names were of that accent. So we see that as norm. Honestly not a problem to me. If you watch enough Japanese and Korean anime you get the feel of yeah Avatar is an American attempt at anime in the style but it is obviously American by pronunciations and voice. Watching Avatar with Chinese, Korean or Japanese voice overs you will noticed the difference in names and how they sound. So an adaptation that tried to correct for that from an Asian director makes sense. All the other things he did doesn't.
@agrizan Жыл бұрын
@@rnkelly36 As you said, it was an American show, definitely inspired by Asian culture and animation, but still definitely American. It would one thing if it were actually set in the countries it is taking inspiration from, but its not, so changing the names is not a "correction" it is just a change. If the American show were itself a translation or adaptation and the movie was returning to an original pronunciation I would agree with you, but its not, the character is made up, so the correct pronunciation is the original one. It is reasonable to say that the show doesn't do the best job of representing the cultures it is inspired or their languages, but that doesn't change what the correct name of the character is. Also, saying most fiction is skewed toward an American audience ignores the vast amount of fiction that is produced in other parts of the world including Asia. If you are referring to just content popular in America, then well duh many place mostly consume fiction from that place, but if you are referring to worldwide media, you are being rather dismissive.
@rnkelly36 Жыл бұрын
@@agrizan I hope this does not offend but what should we call Jesus? Letter J was not until about a 14th century creation. Most of our translations are from Greek not the native Hebrew. 1st century people had no understandings of our pronunciations. Tolken was also aware of this that is why he included many names for the same thing in his legendarium. The name Frodo would be different in French and in Spanish so he prepared his writings to be translated differently. My only disagreement with Avatar the animation is that it tries to lend off of Asian culture by overwriting it with western ways. Listen it was for kids so most people understand that. The movie however tires to almost erase its Asian roots while changing the pronunciations to fit the east Asian roots. I get it and I don't. I admit in the international company I work in many workers will bend to the Americanization of their names but if you are smart and on your game you ask how they prefer to be addressed. We don't do that in animation or fiction. We usually just assume everything is communicating from an American perspective in the current time. Having some nod to accuracy of people is also nice that is why saying Aang or Aung is not really a big deal. Its just nice that the director tried to nod back to the culture the story was created around. You are correct in saying the word "right" should be in quotes. Because neither pronunciation is "right". One is just more correct to the culture and one is more correct to where the story was created.
@agrizan Жыл бұрын
@@rnkelly36 I would say that if you want to be the most correct, you should call Jesus the name he would have called himself originally, just like you should call characters the names they refer to themselves as in their original instances.

One Piece live action was made the right way because Oda needed to give his permission to every scene that got in the final show. No weird woke political bullshit was allowed. That was why it was a success. I don't have much hope for Avatar since there is no main author who can refuse all nonsense from woke activists that pretend to be writers..sadly not real writers these days have the chance to make truly good shows since propaganda is considered more important than anything, even at the cost of loosing billions like Disney is continuing to do year after year with all their intellectual property.
