I was hoping for something more advanced. I need to learn how to diagnose problems with electronics other than the visibly bad capacitors. Any videos on this?

Did you find any tutorial to teach you how to diagnose problems ?

It is okay to use a 48volt cap (good luck finding one though, haha!) to replace a 10v cap, as long as the capacitance is the correct value.

Electrolytic capacitors like those have the electrolyte dry out eventually, then they short and bulge or burst... I've replaced a boat load of them over a 30ish year span of playing with electronics...

Precisely! Yet, unknowing, how many of us have just replaced the devices when they 'die' -- yet hopefully it is clear from the video, sometimes (maybe even often times) a few bucks and a couple minutes is all you need to do the repair yourself.

Flux helps heating the solder to allow it to flow better. We use 600° irons and liquid flux but same idea. Nice video.

... and if you watch for discarded items, sometimes you can score really great gear for free! I got a 21-inch broken monitor for free and found two burnt out capacitors. Bought a 5-pack for $12 and now I have a brand new monitor for $12. Have fun tinkering!!

that was fun to learn, I think I may take this a little further, thanks you guys, I see the possibilities, but can I fix my own phones?.

You bought the wrong caps. The originals are green, which always means low ESR. And that is what you should get as replacement. Also, get a decent brand like Panasonic, Nichicon or Rubycon. That Shenzen market crap you are about to buy will not last. And there is nothing wrong with a 48V cap if it will fit. And secondly, you kept on going on about charge retained in those caps being dangerous. Even if they could retain charge (which they can't - they are broken) it would be five volts. That is not going to hurt you. But you completely ignored the bigger, bulk capacitor near the other end of the board. That one will hurt, as it has a couple of hundred volts on it, and as it is not broken, there's a good chance that voltage is still present.

Use iso alcohol 99% for cleaning and Ear cotton swab you have better results ! And you say you don't have to buy a solder station that costs over 300dollar but see your own solder iron the heating comes and goes and you don't have a temperature standby , fast heating , exactly temperature control ect. I tell everyone if you buy cheap iron solder station you buy twice ! Thanks for the video for not doing in that way but carefully! Regards,

I always use horse hair acid brushes with Grade B 99.9% isopropyl

Couldn't you just dip the iron into the flux then wet the joints ?

You need to be super careful sticking your hands in the of a TV, some of those TV's especially Plasma can have 1000's of volts on the capacitors which can re charge themselves , they can send you to the promise land instantly, TV's are my trade as a TV engineer, time served BE CAREFUL.

$1.60 per capacitor plus how many minutes/hours?

Can’t even properly solder. Heat up the pad and leg of component and use leg of component to melt the solder.

Always remove flux otherwise it'll corrode the solder over time... I prefer using horse hair acid brushes dipped in isopropyl
