As someone who lost 30 pounds this year, this video would have been great 6 months ago. I pretty much did exactly what you say to do, but to an extreme fasting level. I ate maybe 700-1100 calories a day, and while the first day was absolute hell on me, I actually managed to do that for a MONTH. It wasn't until I talked to my brother that I learned calorie counting to a much higher degree, and wish I did sooner.

As a massive fitness nerd who's gone through my own weight loss journey (down 45lb, excuse the flex), this video is fantastic. Everything is explained in simple easy to understand terms and could be the perfect kick in the back someone needed to get started. All the info (to my knowledge) is perfectly sound, which is no small feat for a subject with so much misinformation going around. Huge respect for making this. Keep at it boss.👏

dude i started watching you for risk of rain 2 stuff, wayyyyyyy before the DLC's dropped on console haha. big ups for making this video. i want to mention how "just for today" has helped me in the past you mention consistency and motivation is often the hardest part about a lifestyle change, such as weight loss and dieting etc. my suggestion for anyone struggling with motivation or consistency is to take things one day at a time. yesterday doesnt really matter, and tomorrow might not give you the opportunities you expect. so, just for today, live according to your goals and do what you want/need to achieve them. you want that food that you might feel guilty about? go for it, but dont put the walk off till tomorrow - do it today. you feel like you should undereat today because perceived overeating yesterday? false, fuel up the tank normally and hit a walk to pay for the alleged shortcoming yesterday. "just for today, i'll treat myself and work it off." or "just for today, ill put in some extra work." like Woolie said, it's no more complex than calories in VS out. as long we maintain a beneificial trend on a daily basis, it's a simple matter of time. you didn't get this way randomly one day, you won't randomly undo it one day. it's a process
@iluxa-4000
@iluxa-4000 4 ай бұрын
Idk if you know this already, but this pretty much spot on what any psychologist or psychiatrist will tell you about motivation, goals and achieving them. Don't set big goals, because they will seem insurmountable and you are very likely to back down, but small goals. And praise yourself for the things you achieve, even the small ones. You ate salad today instead of mcflurry? Good job. But also don't fall into guilt or self-hatred if you didn't. You ate mcflurry and didn't exercises today even though you feel like you should've? That's fine, you'll try again tomorrow. And also - the past is the past, let it be. You feel ashamed that you never worked out before and only ate cheetos every day? Let it be. You are who you are today. Don't waste energy on thinking about the past and self-loathing over things that could've been. Start today. Do 10 push ups. And - don't rush with improvement. "Oh, I ran 1 mile today, so I have to run 1,5 the next time, and then 2". Don't. Do what you can today, don't even think about what results you want to hit or how much effort it'll take or whatever. If you can run 1,5 miles the next time - great, go for it. If you can't - do as much as you can. Even if you can't run the mile you previously did (and trust me I know - setbacks *hurt*) - that's fine, you're not a robot, fails happen, especially in working out. But if you still feel bad, ask yourself this - what is better, if you ran worse than usual, or if you didn't run at all? You still did a good thing, and small improvements like that are exactly the things that change your life for the better

I wanna share a bit of my story. When I was 16-17, I started going to the gym and lifting weights. All good, until you consider that I started to eat like a CHONK, my goodness. My thought was "hey, I'm exercising, so I can afford to eat more". Yeah, probably not an extra cake every day. So yeah, I got overweight extremely quickly. And when I stepped on the scale and it showed 87 kilos with my height being 180cm (my american folks - I'm sorry, no pounds and inches for you), I realized that I messed up big time. So, I decided to drop some weight. I bought a kitchen scale to weigh my food, tracked the calories (roughly), and established the base line of 2500 for myself. It was a bit lower than I should've in hindsight, since I also dramatically increased my exercises, but oh well. I was hungry *constantly*, I was waiting for lunch every single day like the second coming of Christ. But it was very effective - I dropped 16 kilos in a bit over a year, and got my stamina way up there (I could run at a decent pace for a few hours, while even a year ago I was dead after 5 minutes). Then, after some time staying in that weight, I decided that I want to lift more, so I loosened up my restrictions a bit, to 3000 calories/day, and started slowly gaining weight. And after a few years, I hit my peak form - I could run a marathon (slowly, around 4 hours, not how pros do it, but still), I hit 105 kilos in bench presses, I could do 25 pull ups casually, it was great. By that point my weight went up to 83 kilos, but it was a lot of muscle, I didn't have much fat back then, and I think my caloric intake went up to 3500 calories because my metabolism was very fast by that point. However, exercising 6 times a week hit me in the area which I didn't consider before - mental. Please, always remember - overextending and overexercising puts a massive strain on your nervous system and your mental state, so don't do it. Slow and steady wins the race. It's about slowly improving, not getting to the result as fast as possible. So, unfortunately, while I was at my peak physically, I was also at my last year of university. So, in addition to training 6 days a week, I was also working on my diploma, and after a pretty harsh breakup - I snapped. I won't go into much detail, but the relevant part is that afterwards I was paralyzed from the waist down for 3-4 months, and it took me about a year to recover and be able to walk on my own again without support. But thankfully, I avoided (most) permanent injuries, so I returned to a normal state now, 4 years later. I still go to the gym, but I don't really lift much anymore, I'm more focused on stretching and cardio (although I am not allowed to run for long anymore because of my back issues, which pains me the most, I loved running). Recently I tried to bench press again, just to see where I stand - 95 kilos for 1 rep. Honestly, very surprising considering 4 years of no training. Goes to show - your muscles don't really go away if you worked on them long and hard. From my experience, you lose like 10-15% of your strength if you stop exercising regularly, but that's about it. Now, the stamina is what takes a massive hit. I'm back to being dead after 5 minutes on a treadmill :D Nowadays, I don't really count my calories, but I think they're around 3000/day, and my current weight is 85 kilos. Which is a lot, but I don't want to lose weight at this moment in my life, I'm ok with being slightly chubby. However, I try to eat healthy - more vegetables, no fast food, no snacks, drink more water. It helps a lot to be energetic and well rested too. My advice - eat more salads, salads are fantastic. It was a long message and nobody will read it anyway, but it was my story. I probably missed out on a lot of things, like my exercising routine, but it would make it even longer lol

damn tf how do you get paralyzed but only temporarily
@iluxa-4000
@iluxa-4000 4 ай бұрын
@@hamburgerfatso not all paralysis is permanent. If the nerve connection between the brain and the muscles is damaged/severed somewhere - you are basically done, only a very, very small chance that you can recover. If the area of your brain responsible for interpreting signals is damaged - even worse. But in my case - I had nerve damage, but not too much, and the main connection wasn't severed (the spinal cord). The main reason why I couldn't move around is because my bones, when broken, slashed and cut my muscles (sorry for the imagery), and some of them were destroyed, some of them had to be removed during surgeries, and also add to the like 3 or 4 days of complete stillness while I was in a coma, and yeah , muscle atrophy is a bitch. But, while I was in a hospital, I was visited by doctors many times, and some of them were working on trying to get me back up. Ever watched Kill Bill? The scene where she looks at her toes and imagines them moving until they do is literally what I was told to do :D And it worked, with a lot of pain, misery and suffering during the training, of course

I picked up weight training back in August, and i can confidently say it has been one of the best changes i’ve made in my life. I used to be 120 lbs, have self image issues, and not even be able to bench a 35 lb starting bar. But over several months, i learned that it’s all about PROGRESS. And as of today, i’ve gained about 30 lbs of muscle, feel great about how i look, and set a PR of 95 lbs on bench!

One big tip if you aren't feeling like working out. Your moto on a bad day: "I'm going to show up to the gym and do one thing. If I still don't want to do it, I'll go home." This gets and keeps you in the routine. We all have bad days. Just show up, do your warm-up, and see how you feel after. This helped me keep the routine and really transformed my physique. Good luck, yall. Stay safe

Believe it or not, protein, while mandatory for growing muscle and in turn gaining weight, is also great for losing weight. To lose weight just eat less in general and focus on eating lots of Protein AND fiber, as they are both great for this. This doesn't mean go buy protein powder to lose weight since the goal is to substitute your preexisting meals, for those rich in protein and fiber. When you eat these types of foods, they will take longer to digest, meaning you'll in turn need less calories to go throughout the day. In addition water is your best friend for losing weight (milk for gaining, do not drink unless actively working out and trying to gain weight). Good luck, lemme know if you have any questions.

Some things to highlight (also not a professional but still): - What Woolie says around 7:50 ish is just as important to remember for weight loss as it is weight gain. Maybe you order a soda with lunch. Maybe when you go out to dinner you get one with that too. You might be passively drinking 500+ calories a day and not even realize it (varies from soda to soda, but a medium is somewhere around 230 - 270 cals from what I see online). - If you're overwhelmed by the amount of things you have to change to reach the goal you set for yourself, make the goal easier. Make the changes one at a time until a habit forms. Ease yourself into the process. If the goal you've set feels impossible, you're more likely to give up when you don't see progress. - Your weight will fluctuate, even if you are losing weight, there will still be times when the scale goes back up. Look for overall trends. - Start easy at the gym. If you injure yourself, you aren't going back. If you find that you can do a certain number of repititions with ease (this number may vary depending on your goals), add a bit more. Once you find a weight that requires an effort to reach the end of a set, but you are still completing it with good form, and with gas in the tank, write that shit down in the notes app on your phone so you don't forget next time you lift. Do this for every exercise that you plan on doing. - As soon as you start looking up fitness things on the internet, you'll be bombarded with workout plans and supplement ads (looking at you, V-shred). Don't buy them. If you want free, science based advice on lifting, form, diet, etc. Jeff Nippard on YT is goated (yeah he has a program too and I'd still recommend you don't buy it, at least until you have really formed the gym habit and want the information in a more digestible format with spreadsheets and stuff.)

Great vid Woolie! Thanks for the insight etc. I think it's important to show what healthy living actually looks like, especially as a lot of athletes/actors/fitness influencers are juiced to the gills and never mention it, or in the case of actors in films, in the middle of a weight cut which, in my opinion, weight cuts are some of the most dangerous things a person can do, especially without professional supervision/help. So thanks for keeping it real my man!

Woolie knows a lot about this stuff, this is good info. I want to add to the weight gain section: As a former very skinny guy (6'1" 140lbs) I gained 60lbs in a year by drinking tons of water in my meals to open my stomach, eating quickly (15 minutes or less per meal) so that my brain wouldnt register fast enough that i was eating a colossal surplus, and personally if i couldnt make my calories with good foods, i would shamelessly eat super high calorie dense foods. To me, there was no shame in having a pizza if thats what it took to reach my calories. Skinny guy's have high metabolism and a bad appetite, so it can be difficult to gain weight, but it worked for me well enough, im currently sitting at 200lbs, and i feel strong and healthy.

Gonna definitely look into the macros thing, while I'm aware of the health benefits of different nutrients, I did not know the balance to attain muscle growth or maintenance. 172lbs * .7 = ~120g of Protein; so it sounds like I have a lot more protein to consume (I have never kept track of eating habits). One thing that really stood out to me as potentially dangerous advice was the canned tuna. You gotta be careful with eating canned tuna bro! I am a reformed toxic and addicted gamer. I found that prioritizing productivity (school/work/chores/etc.) and productivity related hobbies (gym/art/etc.) before gaming has helped me a lot. I've learned that I have more fun with my remaining 2-5 hours of gaming than when I used to play for 12-18 hours a day. Progress makes PERMANENT, not perfection.

If you want an explanation for it, it has to do with dopamine. To put it in simple terms - you have a certain "tank" of dopamine. It is refueled every time you sleep (that's why sleep is very important), and it is spent on basically everything you do. Monotonous, annoying, hard labour (studying, working, chores etc) takes a lot of dopamine to keep you going without getting exhausted. Hobbies take less, but still a sizeable amount. Brain rot stuff (doom scrolling, watching tik tok, mindlessly gaming, other stuff I won't mention) is basically automated, so it requires very little dopamine to sustain. But that's the tricky part - if you start gaming or watching youtube when your tank is full, it will still be depleted quite quickly, and without it, you won't be able to do work or study effectively. So, the main takeaway is - do the necessary stuff first, when you're well rested. Then hobbies, and only then should you spend the remaining time on your phone or pc or whatever else. It is a simple change, but it is crazy how much easier the life becomes with it

Also something i found helpful as another big and tall guy that didnt really want to diet i got a trainer for awhile and he said to walk on the treadmill on max incline and then just walking for 30 minutes according to him should be more calories than you consume in a day unless you go absolutely crazy im 6'5" and 270 lbs and its helped me a lot

you absolutely can get pretty massive gains while being a nerd gamer, going for like 45mins to an hour in the gym 4-5 times a week is PLENTY and probably overkill for the average lifter (assuming your sessions are sufficiently hard, like not being out of breath once during the whole workout probably means you're not training intensively enough generally speaking) I've was like 75kg/165lbs two years ago at 6"2 (very skinny with no muscle mass) and exactly two years later im 90kg/200lbs and I'd say pretty damn buff, I've managed to gain these 15kg~ in the first year but over the second year I kinda struggled with maintaining my bulking diet (peaked at 94kg/207lbs) so now im 90kg but im definitely more muscular and I spend around 5-6 hours a week at the gym... point is, its possible and surprisingly easy compared to what I thought it would take to achieve my current results 2 years ago.

I lost 160lbs in less than a year. 320->160. Currently at 173 14.7%bf. Was worth it even though it was absolutely by the psychopath route. Started slow with just a couple long hikes a week and changing diet and ended at 40 hours a week in the gym on top of hikes and other physical activities 😂

13:38, I study sports in general, and in bodybuilding my coach told me that lateral raises should be done with elbows slightly bent as fully locking them might be prone to injury, very well informed vid, stay healthy and gaming. Ad also, both of you have a long marriage.

There isnt evidence for this, and I can certainly think.of no rationale. For shoulders, retracting shoulder blades/packing lats THEORETICALLY increase space for the joint may reduce impingement, but elbow position? Idk, most things about injury are entirely theoretical in nature

Also, I'm midway through the video, maybe this is mentioned later on, but muscle weights more than fat, so if you're sticking to a plan and you know for a fact you're in a calory deficit but you don't see the numbers go down, that's a possible cause
