Yes, You Can Record Music Without Computer Software
Since I got this old, classic Tascam 488 Portastudio, I have been inspired to produce an album using this and my other instruments. Yes, I am making music without the use of apps.
Here’s the first song I produced using this multitrack cassette recorder.
The rest of the gear are as follows:
Drums: Roland TR-8s
Synths: Moog Grandmother and Roland Ju-06A
Guitar: Fender 57 Telecaster
Bass: Fender Jazz Bass
Mic for everything: Shure SM57
Recorder: Tascam 488 Portastudio - 8 Track Cassette Recorder
Medium: Type II Studio Cassette by Maxell.

the mixing... especially the vocals, make me feel some kind of way. Everything from the melody to the lyrics, reminds me of the joy it is to just sit down and listen to music created by humans for humans

Thanks! Yes, the 488s are considered the holy grail of these cassette portastudios. It’s a remarkable piece of technology for that time - 8 tracks in a cassette and it sounds great!

It depends on the kind of music you make. I happen to have electronic equipment. But if you’re doing punk rock or folk, it’s much much less compared to all the expenses having a computer, inerface, plug ins etc.
