My favorite feature in the game is the button dedicated to Jack telling you how much ammo he has left. He's so determined to tell you how many magazines he has that he interrupts his own dialogue and rudely talks over other characters. Even in death, he's really excited to tell you he has "FIVE MAGAZINES ON BACKUP."

Also, for anybody who enjoyed the game or movie, I HIGHLY recommend checking of the "The World of Kong: A Natural History of Skull Island" It's an absolutely gorgous book of concept art of all the wildlife in both the film and the game set up as an ecological guide, going into insane detail on the ecosystems on the island. One of the coolest books I own.

King Kong is literally one of my favorite games ever. I have so many good memories of this game, and yes quite a bit of nostalgia. Rage is such a cool ass mechanic, and I was so into it as a kid, and the game was legitimately scary at times, especially when all your companions are split off and you're all alone. And I super agree with how cool the game changing based on how you play. Like in the Sacrifice level, you have to fight a velociraptor. Naturally you hide and throw spears at him from a distance your first time, this the first time you meet a dinosaur and therefore pretty startling. However, if you actually take charge and kill this raptor as soon as he shows up through use of a fire lantern, a second velociraptor shows up, and when you kill that enemy three smaller wolflike enemies that you normally don't find until much later in the game. I'd say that while the game as a whole doesn't have much replay value, a lot of the levels definitely do!

One of the most interesting things is that Cody Barlog, the lead director of the 2018 God of War reboot, which is one of the most acclaimed games of all time (specifically for it's story), stated that this game, although filled with plenty of flaws, is what inspired him on how a narrative could be implemented into a game. I find it fascinating how much a movie licensed game influenced so many, even the director of the game that many consider the 2018 game of the year alongside the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Spiderman for PS4.

Honestly, once you get good at this game, you can really start to slaughter almost anything short of the invincible V-Rexes as Jack with nothing but spears and the occasional bullet or shell. Jack, with a little experience, may as well be an ancestor of the Doom Slayer. The game is genuinely scary at times, too. The Brontosaurus level is one of the earliest examples given you're entirely alone and it's pretty easy for the larger raptors (which are pretty much guaranteed to kill you in two hits and can drag you around) to sneak up on you amidst the pounding of the feet of the big guys above. You don't have enough ammo to just spray the things and there's no way in hell you're gonna outrun them, so it always turns into a rush between the rest points with a set of spears and fire. Jack's ammo counting speech is pretty funny sometimes. Literally, he'll rudely interrupt other's dialogue and cut off his own dialogue just to count his ammo. I remember laughing once during that mini level where Kong tosses you off a giant log and Jack was just reassuring to himself "It's OK, I've got enough magazines" as he falls to what he can only assume is his imminent death.

This game came out back when I was still a kid in school, along with the film, obviously. It was such a bizarre time to be living in, where King Kong of all things was popular. Kids in my grade crazed over the movie and game, and even bought the toys/merch and brought them to school. It had such a presence that the younger kids even pretended to play as characters from the film during Recess, and even called each other by the character names during school itself. I had people asking me if they could buy my game copy, offering to trade things for it, too. It's really not something I think about often, but seeing this video really struck a memory of nostalgia for me. I loved the game, and the movie, yet have not played the game in 15 years. I remember being TERRIFIED during the first V-Rex mission, where you need to spear down the bat creatures for the Rex to eat while you navigated through. I remember being generally spooked over the smaller dinosaurs, and the way they friggen moved through tall grass. It was an intense experience, and honestly, games just don't feel like that anymore. Granted I was much younger at the time, but everything is such over saturated multi-player nonsense, or overly complex, Anime-like Campaigns. This game, along with the movie it was based off of, are gems. Lost in obscurity forever. (Especially the game) I need to buy it, and relieve a bit of that nostalgia one of these days. I will always miss those early days of Xbox Live, especially days like Halo 3 and Halo Reach, along with MW2 and Black Ops 1, but the days of 2005 were also such a unique time. Thank you for letting me relieve a moment of my childhood I often forget.

One of my favorite games I played on the original xbox! So happy to see king kong covered on this channel! I remember being absolutely blown away by the graphic it was able to display on the original xbox!

Does a crack for the PC version exist to remove the DRM? You are not a thief if you buy the game and then crack it

It exists but torrenting the game has its own problems. Your save files could get corrupted half through the game multiple times.
