i also recommend the prequels, Trails in the Sky and the Sequels to Zero and Azure, Trails of Cold Steel. In short play all Legend of Heroes Trails games, they are all indeed legends

There's no prequels in Trails, all of them are on chronological order/release needless to say I do agree in playing all the Trails games.

Great review! Just started my playthrough of Trails from Zero (which is actually my first Trails game) and I love it just 8 hours in. And I know they won't be for everybody but I adore the art style and graphics. Reminds me of a polished version of the original Grandia game on the PS1. Totally agree too, Falcom seems to nail everything they release as I am a huge YS fan. A floorless track for me. 👍

I started from Cold Steel 1 on the Vita, like most people. And then, midway through Cold Steel 2 (on GeForce Now), I found out about the Evolution version of the Prequels on the Vita: Trails in the Sky FC, SC, and the 3rd. I decided to play those, first, patched with the fan translation by Goefront, based on the PC version from 2006+. They are AWESOME! Dialogs-wise, even better than Zero+Azure. Now I'm playing the Evo version of Zero on the Vita. Too bad I can't get the English fan translation for Azure Evo, as well. Have to play that one on the PS4, later.

Nah get it on Switch. 1 word- physical. I'm getting it on both. PC so I can start playing today, switch because I ordered Zero & Azures Collectors Edition and the estimated delivery is like 5 days OUCH. At least I got notified it shipped

I was just glad I played Sky trilogy as well as Zero and Azure the translations before playing Cold Steel 3 and 4 because seeing all party members from all three arcs come together and team up was the best moment in the best thing ever. Falcom should have had these released in the west a long time ago, why would they skip them and have me lost as a result when Lloyd and Rixia show up at the end of Cold Steel 2?

I think the PS4 version is more than serviceable, even without the quality-of-life improvements. If you only have a PS4, then you can't go wrong with this version.

​@@date5960 redone sprites, message log, more Graphical tweaks (aspect ratio, draw distance, anti-aliasing, texture improvements,and other stuff like that), variable framerates, Mouse support like in the Sky games (not in other versions for obvious reasons), encounter toggle (option for enemies to trigger a fight from touching any party member or just the party lead) and general extra bug fixing to make it better. the following are in the pc and switch versions as well but the ps4 version does still keep some additions like: the Classic turbo mode, the Chest messages (mix of ones written by NISA and the old geofront ones) and some small NPC cameos for both Zero and Azure from future games.

I played cold steel 1 and 2 and stopped, I know cold steel 3 is a Combination of all the games so far and so I'm actually gonna play zero instead of continuing and then I'll play the sky games after my crossbell arc.

Worth considring doing the sky games 1st. Without giving any spoilers there are some elements of Zero you will get more out of if you've completed all 3 sky games. Not only that but the sky games are superb in themselves.

@@kulvurt8386 lmfao I did start sky FC I was 20 hours in and lost all progress because pc problems and that low key made me less motivated to continue. So I'm thinking if I play zero it'll give me the passion to try sky again.

@@mizusaucemix It honestly depends how much you get invested in the story and characters in a game. The most emotional moments of Zero have their grounding in the Sky series. So if you do Zero 1st, some of that stuff wont resonate. My play order was CS1 & 2 - Started CS3 and realised I didnt know many of the characters that were turning up so I went all the way back and did Sky series, followed by Crossbell and then through all CS again. Was the best decision as so much of the world, characters story had so much more impact. You can absolutley play Zero and enjoy it loads, dont get me wrong. But you only get to play something for the first time once. Which ever you choose, you're going to have a great time. Worth considering a non-spoiler guide for the Sky series, trims out unnecessary back tracking etc & you dont miss any story/side quests. I promise that if you can power through that first part of Sky FC, it will hook you and the pay off in the long run will be worth it. Zero isnt going anywhere and by the time your done, Azure will be here.

If you don't have a PC, then a recap can fill you up to speed just don't expect the same level of emotional impact as playing them. The Sky Trilogy runs on a potato made within the last decade.

If you ever make that trails video, just remember: The Grandmaster is NOT Thanos, she's the one who's trying to get the Infinity Stones of this universe, but she's not in it for their power. The Ebon Knight, Ishmelga, is Thanos, he's trying to reform the power of the great one which was separated into 7 fragments. He is trying to bring about the reality he wants.

Nope. Has the same problems all other trails games do. Slow boring combat. Basic anime story telling. There are just way better JRPGs out there and I have limited time.
