I guess I am a grumpy, cranky curmudgeon too because I agree with most of what Pete Rose is saying. There is no 2 strike approach says yes dude but I think his point was that it is out of fashion now....Pete says (quite correctly I think) that you get that 2 strike approach in enough of a team's players and you're going to win more games. Hit the ball hard but don't necessary swing overly hard....the ball might go out sometimes but swing for contact and you'll score more runs with 2 strikes and RISP.
@delvorin17055 жыл бұрын
That's not being grumpy and cranky. That's just being smart. Make contact. Get the single to drive in a run. Put the ball in play and move the runner over. The way batters strike out nowadays, it's like they want to break the strikeout record as much as the home run record. I think it's sad because if a pitcher is able to get to 3,000 strike outs now, won't be as big an accomplishment since everyone's trying to swing for the fences.

Pete said it himself -- Jeter is the WINNINGEST shortstop of all time. that's what matters. A-Rod didn't build teams; he caused drama and self-served. his number help win games surely, but his arrogance and hubris brought about the stain that lives with him. i'll take a classy, team-oriented, productive leader any day over that.
@romenvillalobos705 жыл бұрын
Jeter wouldnt have been shit if he never wore pinstripes. Put em anywhere else and his numbers would be different and that title of "being the most successful SS ever" would be gone. He played with nothing but studs on his team. And no one wants to talk about his abysmal career defense. I love how everyone wants to shit on Arod when everyone was juicing. People who say juicing is cheating never played professional baseball. Juicing will never ever help you hit a 95+ fastball. And i can give a shit about his personality, he just has to produce. Baseball rule #1, NEVER EVER QUESTION PETE ROSE. END OF STORY LOL.

Most knowledgeable baseball man around. Nice to see Kay not grandstanding him. I grew up idolizing him. Was in Vegas and there he was at FoD in the Forum Shops. Wife bought me the complete deal, the signed jersey, the ball, the autographed book, picture with and time to talk with him. Walked away from there thinking he will never get in the HOF, arrogance surrounded him. He and Ichiro are the greatest hitters in history. Ichiro will. His carbon copy with class and manners, Ohtani will. Pete's brashness will keep him out. Maybe in posthumously.

Pete Rose may be banned from the HOF (which I can't comment on, too young) but he is one heck of a baseball guy. Said it like it is. In this day and age all a guy needs to do is hit the ball hard, not swing for the fences.

Free agency has ruined it for me. From metro detroit. Last year 4 of the best pitchers former tigers, verlander the only one traded. Your team wins 85 games, your excited for next year because you have young talent on the team and in the minors. Looks like, if things go well, your in the playoffs. In the off season, 2 of your best pitchers leave and one of your best hitters. The team goes 80 and 82. Then they wonder why attendance is down?

What your solution? Bring back the reserve clause? FA is the only vehicle for the players, who are the product, to get market value.

@@AverageLeagueHack I'm not saying I have a solution, just telling why I don't go to games anymore, or watch on t.v.

Regardless of people's perception of Pete Rose I admire such a legendary figure. He possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of the game of baseball ⚾️. Love listening to him and take his opinion very seriously. No matter where you stand I think he should be let back into professional baseball to manage a team and yes belongs in the Hall of Fame. He has suffered enough punishment and you can disagree if you want. The current baseball commissioner should give him some slack and let the hit king 👑into the HOF.

How the hell could you have a discussion of the greatest shortstops in history and NOT bring up Honus Wagner?
@albundy41635 жыл бұрын
wagner is the best shortstop, like hornsby at second. thats a no brainer...i think they are talking after those legends
@ep74305 жыл бұрын
Because they played in a time before bullpens with closer mounds and many other differences and comparing them would be pointless
@albundy41635 жыл бұрын
@@ep7430 huh?? what do you mean before bullpens..starters were the guys in the bullpen. they actually could pitch more than 1 inning....closer mounds when was that...??
