Tour de France 1989 Stage 2 Team Time Trial, copied from chickasmith on youtube and shortened a bit, with my own comments which may or may not be funny to you all. I'm a compulsive silly person. I'm taking meds for it.

Please note that Lemond's team lost 51secs to Fignon's team. No one complained that the Super-U team was full of strong men and Lemond had to do most of the work for his ADR team. The tri-bars made up for this fact...

Remember Delgado's breakdown at this TTT with his Reynolds team due to his failure at the Prologue. If you coun't out this TTT and give Delgado the time he actually spent on the road - he would have won this Tour. He made a historic failure on the Prologue - and thus gave LeMond the opportunity for a come back. LeMond wouldn't stand a chance against Delgado in the Mountains with helpers as Rondon, Gorospe and Indurain vs. Kuun, Plancaert and Lammerts :-)

Nice theory but note that once Delgado got close on GC (Less than 3 minutes down) he was given little leeway and in fact never got away from both Lemond and Fignon at the same time. If he'd have gone into the Pyrenees a minute or 2 down, his attack on the descent of the Tourmalet would've been shut down by Systeme U and/or PDM, if indeed it would've happened at all. Lemond used the other teams very well during this TDF, not only was he the best rider of his generation he was also the smartest.

I am still surprised Super U was able to pull that off against all those Dutch teams. I would imagine both Bjarne Riis and Thierry Marie were both a big help to Fignon in this TTT.

Chiappucci's awful ride in this TDF no doubt inspired his turning to EPO shortly after this race.

I noticed that Pedro Delgado's team was listed as 13th out of 22. How come the teams after Reynolds finished faster and they still wind up 13th? I think Delgado's team had finished last out of the teams (22nd). Still the fight Delgado had given trying to get back up to where he finished by the time he got to Paris was still amazing!

Finally with white disc wheels from back then. Every one has black disc wheels today. Not sure if its because disc wheel surfaces are made from carbon or not, though. Ah 04:15("Carbon fiber disc in the back") so even back then they used Carbon, but painted. 650C in the front, 700C back and downsloping frames, very different very cool!

Not sure--the Campy disc was pretty popular, and it was white. However, more strides are made to reduce weight these days, and my carbon fiber frame has only a clearcoat (paint is too heavy) and it's black. They may just clearcoat the carbon fiber to reduce weight, which makes a lot of sense for a wheel. You know disc's were always pretty heavy.
