My Mum was an extra in this film and as a director myself, my mum asked Danny for some advice for me. And he said “You always think you’re not getting anywhere but really you are.” Just incase anyone else is an aspiring filmmaker :)

zondaintheair Well im a 15 year old filmmaker and I don’t feel like I have changed all that much however I Definetely have. A year ago I began a short film, 1 year later it’s finished, the cast consisted of hired actors I had not met previously and now it has funding for a premiere and 4 more screenings. Then a bafta winning director is circling it around the U.K. business and helping me get it into film festivals and a producer at Sky for a show wants to put it on one of their shows which then goes onto amazon prime. Now all this seems like I had a lot of help and already knew people in the business like a lot of people have parents who are writers or producers. Erode I began this film I had no contacts, my parents have no ties to the creative industry. Anyone can do it and go way further, you just have to go out there. Find a story you love and tell it to the best of your ability.

Well, they paid $250,000 to get the original 'Tomorrow Never Knows' in Mad Men, so I can imagine how expensive the catalogue must have been here. Great interview though 👍

little bit of random knowledge Leonardo was meant to do American Psycho but pulled out to do the beach (the film Danny Boyle was referencing) which Ewan McGregor was meant to do originally. They wanted to offer American psycho to Ewan after Leo pulled out but Christian Bale, who had been offered the role before anyone more well known had been offered it, called Ewan who he'd worked with in Velvet Underground and asked him to turn it down. Christian had been training for a year for it when the studio was still set to cast Leonardo Dicaprio. When they had no one else at such late notice, they gave it to the actor who was prepared and wanted it, Christian Bale That is the story of how badass Christian Bale is and what loyalty can look like in the movie industry. Granted if Danny Boyle hadn't changed his mind about Ewan we would have a very different landscape of actors now. Sadly Ewan didn't talk to Danny Boyle for another 16 years after this and the beach didn't do well at the box office at all one of Leo's lowest grossing movies. I think it's a great film the industry was just very weird at that time, 'nature' wasn't selling, no matter how pretty their protagonist was.
