Wowwie, this one was fun!! The chord changes are tricky but rewarding when you finally get it!! Thanks for challenging us Ms B!! The modern day four chord songs are going to seem like a breeze to play after this challenge!!
@BernadetteTeachesMusic6 жыл бұрын
Yes!! Lots of chord changes! You made a great observation, Kris. When I first started learning to play ukulele, I learned with Beatles songs, so that's what I thought playing the ukulele required. When I looked up famous pop songs, I was surprised at how simple they were because I had spend my time playing Beatles songs. After this challenge, you will see a big change in your playing

Hi Ms.B, See ya, Bye. You're right. Too abrupt. Sounds so much better letting the last note linger as we bask in the loving applause. Nice flow to this challenge. Each song laying a foundation which has helped with the challenging chord changes. This is a beautiful song. Thanks Ms B. A snowy Sunday here, oh how I long for sunny Yesterday. 😃

Morning all! Great lesson, Great song! Yesterday is the only Beatle song that doesn't have ANY of the other Beatles on it, just Paul, (and a string quartet). It was originally only released in the U.S. as a single in Sept. 1965. It wasn't released as a single in the U.K. until Feb. 1976. Paul woke with this song in his head, he has a piano in his room next to the bed, so he quickly wrote it down. For quite a while he thought he had possibly heard it somewhere else before but none of his acquaintances had so he worked it into a song. Originally the working title was Scrambled eggs, ("Scrambled eggs, how I love your legs"). So thankfully he changed those lyrics!!! He recorded this melancholy song a couple of hours after recording I'm Down, (a song that is somewhat brutal on the throat). Released Sept. 13, it hit the Top 40 on Oct. 2, stayed on the charts for 9 weeks, was #1 for four weeks. This is the most covered pop song of all time, with over 3,000 versions recorded according to The Guinness Book Of World Records. This was the first Beatles song to capture a mass adult market. Most of their fans were young people to this point, but this song gave the band a great deal of credibility among the older crowd. When producer George Martin first suggested adding a string quartet, Paul McCartney responded; "Oh no, George. We are a rock 'n' roll band and I don't think it's a good idea." (That's also a part of the reason it wasn't initially released as a single in the U.K.). Looking forward to tomorrow's lesson Ms. Bernadette. Cheers!

I ❤ the mini history lessons. Another clever tidbit I learned from a voice professor in college. As this is a popular song built upon a major scale, it's a great vocal learning tool. In fact, I saw this professor coach a man who was nearly tone deaf to sing Yesterday in tune. #flabbergasted Perhaps Mrs. B will do a tabulature bonus video to demonstrate some theory behind this.

@@BernadetteTeachesMusic Hi! I'm doing well (even if I can't sleep). Hope you're doing well and settling in well after the move. Some of the songs I have been played around with like Yesterday have come up in the challenge, but I've also been trying to play All My Loving, Revolution, Across The Universe, With a Little Help from my Friends, A Day in the Life and Dear Prudence. Some are beyond my level of comfort and skill to play, but I'm enjoying exploring new song and they're still less intimidating than my favourite Queen and Pink Floyd songs.
