Christine seemed to have an idea that Fleetwood Mac might be a good fit for her talents even at this stage. You get the feeling from the interview that she would be the kind of person you'd want to have around you in the studio, knew what she was talking about and gave constructive criticism. Thanks for sharing this, and may she rest in peace.

John Lennon hated ''Maxwell's Silver Hammer'' (1:25). It is true that the lyrics are weird, but the melody is beautiful. I have always liked it. As for David Essex, I love his films ''That’ll be the day'' (1973), and its sequel ''Stardust'' (1974). He overflowed with charisma. PS: Sad news about the passing of Christine McVie.😞

1:52 For the "record"(pun intended), *Maxwell's Silver Hammer* was also covered by Marmalade. Sorry to lose Christine this past week. I have the 1975 LP, *New Lovers & Old Friends* by Johnny Rivers on a Canadian-issue LP which contains a Christine McVie composition, "Spare Me A Little", one of my best-liked tracks on that LP.(I don't say "favourite" because it's hard to single out any songs I'd like over others).

Tens Years After LP "SsssH" was a favorite of the FM underground stations in California. The main song they always played was "If you should love me" not "Stoned Woman." P.S. It is always an embarrassment to see the U.S. top ten chart. There was so much great music being played on the underground FM stations at that time, but the AM pre-designated top 40 radio stations made sure none of it surfaced to the public. Hence, that embarrassing top 10 U.S. chart you see here.

She seemed like the nicest girl and Fleetwood Mac was huge. That Jimmy Cliff Wonderful World, Beautiful People reached #6 in the UK and#25 in America in 1969. Jimmy, along with Desmond Decker and Millie Small with her cover of My Boy Lollipop, were the first Jamaican singers to chart outside the island. The Cliff song however is not ska, as she said, it's pure reggae. Thanks so much YP for your beautiful last shot of Christine. Lovely tribute!

I absolutely loved Wonderful World, Beautiful People when it came out. I must've been 10 years old, but it seemed to be such a happy, uplifting song and had that irresistibly catchy melody, ten-year old me could never resist singing along even though I knew none of the lyrics except for the title. I still love it and I still think it's a song the world needs to hear.

@@lindadote Being in America I had no idea this wonderful Jamaican music was featured in a series. The British kids with the skinhead movement were hip to JA music a few years before we Yankee kids were here in America. It really took Bob Marley's signing to Island Records and releasing the Catch A Fire LP in 1973 to break JA music big here.

I met Christine and Jenny Boyd at a Fleetwood Mac concert at the Boston Tea Party around early 1970. She was with Jenny Boyd at the refreshment stand while the band was playing. I had no idea who they were and thought they were English tourists. I asked them if they would like to go out for some drinks after the concert. They turned me down, but they were very polite and friendly. We chatted a few more minutes and then I went back to watching the band. Neither of them had mentioned that they were with the band. It was six months or so before Jenny married Mick Fleetwood. I didn't find out who they were until I saw Christine's picture when the first album came out with Christine and Stevie Nicks as full members of the band. I knew the other woman wasn't Stevie Nicks, but knowing that Jennyy Boyd had married Mick, I figured it was her, though I didn't know for sure until I saw a picture of her years later! I was a huge fan of the band and saw them at the Tea Party four or five times, but that was the only time I saw Christine. Still a very pleasant memory.

Beautiful choice of reviewer! And it appropriately begins with Christine reviewing Fleetwood Mac. A fairly messy array of tracks, and her assessment is spot-on all the way through. It is just me though, or does that George Howe have a touch of the John Lennons about him lookswise? Which is pretty funny, considering that he covered 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' -- a song that John loathed.

Excellent and timely tribute, but my questions in regard to the historical source content is this: why did Melody Maker insist on referencing the top positions on the American charts from the likes of Cash Box rather than the Billboard Hot 100, despite the fact that the later had been regarded during that whole time period as substantively more authoritative?
