fun fact!!! i also was looking at the old website and there used to to be a button you could click and you could choose your style / subculture ??? not sure how to explain, but like when you would click on one… it would change the website theme for the topic and each one was different so that was really cool!!!

As a fellow web designer who loves 2000s UI design, I can give you a few tricks to help you achieve a 2000s look for your site. First off, drop shadows. These can be used in more places than you’d think, and can be done via the box-shadow CSS property. You can adjust the size, color, and blur effect for the shadow. This is useful for creating depth, to raise a certain object above others. For text, you can use text-shadow, and for non-box objects (eg. transparent image you want to add a shadow to), use filter: blur() instead. Second off, gradients. Color gradients can act as good backgrounds, and are another trick to create depth if done right. These can be done via the CSS property background-image: linear-gradient(). You can specify the angle and colors of a gradient. You can even have different transparencies (which can also be used to create a shadow effect in some cases). Finally, let’s talk fonts. Early websites tended to use Times New Roman and Arial, but those are boring. Some 2000s fonts I’d recommend are: - Tahoma: Windows XP UI font. Unfortunately you can’t get it to look exactly like Windows XP (since you can’t disable anti-aliasing), but you can get pretty close. - Trebuchet MS: A good header font. It was used in Windows XP’s title bars. - Lucida Sans/Grande: This was less common, but it was the Mac OS X UI font for a while. - Helvetica/Helvetica Neue: While it might seem bland, Helvetica was actually quite common, and was used on iOS versions 1-8 for the UI. - Source Sans Pro: While this is a more 2010s font, it was used on the Roblox website for a good while. I do want to mention that what I said about drop-shadows is actually slightly incorrect: you use `filter: drop-shadow()`, not `filter: blur()`, for shadows on images. Not sure what I was thinking, probably just typed that while my brain was on autopilot. The rest of the info is correct afaik. If you're wondering, the blur filter does exactly what you'd think: it applies a blur effect to the object, useful for transitions and visual effects (and, of course, for hiding spoilers). The reason I didn't just edit my comment was because I thought you wouldn't notice if I did (although you may not notice this reply either, to be fair). Again, if you have any questions, send me a reply and I'll try to answer them as best as I can.

I'm so happy to see culture veer back toward appreciating maximalism and the increased interest in the past. I've been seeing so many more of this type of video this year and last year. I love old web design with all my heart, and I believe strongly in media and product preservation, so this is great. Oh and one more thing, I really never gave Roblox a chance because I find the visual style personally off-putting and now I kinda feel bad about that. There's clearly an incredible amount of passion and creativity here, and a vast world of media to discover.

this style of website design has always seemed a bit silly and wonky even childish I'm not sure what sparked this change in design but I believe it parallels the trend of simplifying logos I feel that using fewer colors avoiding gradients and steering clear of goofy images drawn in MS Paint makes a website look more professional looking there's more of a serious aura with minimalist designs as opposed to a site cluttered with Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif and multiple images scattered across the page

Both aren't so hard to be executed though, you can use clipart for a old looking website or use bootstrap for a more modern looking one, it all depends on how you use the HTML elements and CSS stylizing
