Back when we had the paper fast passes, my little sister and I were celebrating our birthdays together at Disneyland we do annually. These two older woman in front of us in line for Space Mountain started chatting with us. Right before we got on the ride they told us “we’re heading out for the day and would like to give you these” They gave us 8 fast pass tickets that had club 33 printed on them. Best birthday celebration ever! Haha

Dear Mr. Eisner, while in High School, a singing group which I sang with (Irvington HS Thor Throats)were going to perform at Disneyland on the stage that rose from the ground in tomorrowland. Unfortunately, it got cancelled at the last minute but I have loved Disney all my life and almost got to work there as a character which I would have absolutely loved. Being 65, I would still Love to do that as just the Atmosphere there is still Magic to me. Put a good word in for me, if possible!

As someone who works in Galaxy's Edge, I would like to remind everyone that you do need a reservation to go to the Cantina. Please don't show up expecting to just be able to walk in.

I remember pre-pandemic it was a 30 day out reservation. Made the reservations for lunch time and of course it was the only day they were taking walk ins for dinner because it was so empty. Waited over an hour to go inside and once I had the experience no one wanted to go in I guess lol

True story every special event they drop one pass near the door on purpose for a Good Samaritan to turn in. The reward is different each time. If you try to sneak in with the pass then you would just be told it was an accident and be turned away.

I was lucky enough to dine at club 33 twice. The first time was everything I thought it would be. The second time I brought another couple, who had a wonderful time. However, my second experience did not have the same magic. Just an expensive dinner. My advice: if you can get in, absolutely have the experience but leave it at that. The memories are better from the first time.

I agree with John, I was fortunate enough to have a connection 3yrs in a row on my birthday. The first time was the best! The other two lost the magic a bit because they changed certain rules and things that had been part of their service for years. It was still cool to be there though. 2003, 2004 and 2005.

I agree with this, after your first visit going again just feels like any other expensive restaurant. But... if you haven't been since the remodel you should go and check out the booths in the hallway to the new lounge. They have changing portraits and each has it's own theme, it's very cool.

Rob Plays is another good channel in addition to this one and Defunctland For what it's worth, he published a video on this topic nearly 2 years ago. Didn't get the same publicity, but it covers a lot of the same backstory in a more concise timeframe. Less fluff in my opinion; more to the point. Stuff such as why Disneyland was dry, the sponsors at the world's fair, the compromise with GE, some theories as to what 33 stands for, and the waitlist and membership fees were all information I knew already going into this video. I encourage Disney fans to subscribe to that channel as well!

Right? I think there for a minute they were all pretty uniform but now they're finding their niches. Yesterworld is good at talking about the smaller details of parks like Club 33, Disneyland Hotel, former tram tour stops, etc. while Rob Plays dips into territory of being Game Theory but for Disney parks and I am HERE FOR IT, and Defunctland tackles the big topics and does pretty great, semi-serialized deep dives that are becoming real works of art.

Yakuza are the "least criminal minded" Mafia group in the world. Most of their business are relatively harmless if not considered illegal in Japan like running a "Gaming" (read: Soft Gambling) parlours, Land renting, Smuggling, Drug manufacturing and Entertainment, which includes Hostess's clubs. You're absolutely right that Walt Disney had scotch stashed inside Disneyland! Business-wise, he did build Club 33 with entertaining executives in mind, but the main personal reason was that he was a bit of an alcoholic and just couldn't spend an entire day at the park without at least one drink. In fact, Tom Jones, a longtime publicist for the Disney Studios, began his career at Disney as Walt's personal wrangler in case he ever got too drunk in public and needed to be taken away. Tom Jones revealed to Robert Osborne that Walt Disney was a much more frequent drinker than the average person of that era, to the point where he needed to hire an employee specifically to whisk him away in case he went too far in public. I never said that Walt Disney wasn't a good and kind man. I live and breathe Disney. But to deify him (as so many Disney fans do) as this untouchable visionary does a disservice to him as a human being. He had his substance problems, like many people do. And it's better to acknowledge that than to bury it or rewrite history books.

Gotten his autograph. We have many mutual friends in common who've worked at Disney Animation over the years. His daughter has come out recently stating he was an alcoholic. Google it. You keep making references to midcentury culture (the Mad Men era), the refinement, the elegance. None of that has any bearing to this discourse. Don Draper was an alcoholic. Jack Donaghy was an alcoholic. So was Walt Disney, if that's what Tom Jones, Robert Osborne, and Walt Disney's personal secretaries claim. Contrary to pop culture, many people of that era did not use drinking for socializing: Charlie Chaplin, Alice Roosevelt Longworth, Howard Hughes. Why do you keep insisting that Walt Disney was a "great man, loved America, loved children, etc etc" when I have done nothing to dispute that? He was all of those things, as well as other things. I had dinners with many of them and still do. Just because I use pop culture comparisons does not make me lesser than you - it makes me want to relate history with perceptions of history filtered through media, of which Disney is certainly a big part of. I never once said Walt Disney was a stumbling buffoon, just that he was an alcoholic. You can be an alcoholic and still be a totally functional member of society. I think you have a very Boomer perception of alcoholics as degenerates, which is very sad. It is not a disease, and it is not something you have to defend people from. I went to club 33 over the summer and it was really fancy; It was almost too fancy. And if people question my integrity, my neighbor actually owns an annual pass to the Club because her dad was an imagineer or something for Disney. But yeah it was cool. They gave me a flower in my salad and the cups were made out of crystal. We also bought some club souvenirs like a key and keychain. I sadly didn’t see any celebrities though :(

Sophie R that’s great. Don’t forget the memorabilia. Every time a friend of mine goes, besides the usual napkins, drink stirrers, retail bags, etc , she always plans on picking up something special to remember, a pin, a hat, purse, jacket, I think always a keychain and a mug. The 1901 Lounge was a lot less "prissy" than the Main Club 33 lounge, so my family went there a lot more than the regular lounge. Disneyland became an almost monthly thing, which made it almost lose some of its specialness. I knew a ton of the cast members, and became a Disney geek. I havent gone back since my estrangement from my parents, I don't think I even remember going to Disneyland any other way than the uncomfortably perfect days I had with Club 33. I'm happy to answer any other questions people have

I really relate to the kids who were taken to holiday land but weren't actually able to go into Disney. Growing up my older sister played travel soccer and every year during labor day weekend there would be a huge tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Disney World. I could probably count on one hand how many times I was actually able to convince my parents to bring me to one of the parks during the weekend. Not only did I not like soccer but Disney was right at my fingertips and I almost never got to go.

Thanks for the video. I didn't realize how special club 33 was when I got to have lunch there as a young adult with my parents, around 1997. I grew up in the central valley of California, far from the lap of luxury. My dad was a loan officer at a bank that provided loans to farmers. One of his clients had a connection to one of the club's corporate sponsors and through dad's client, we were given some passes for lunch. One of my dad's favorite restaurants was the Blue Lagoon at Pirates. I'm sure he was thrilled beyond belief to have access to the club. The thing that sticks out in my mind the most was the unique restroom fixtures. The toilets were covered with dining chairs. If I had any doubt about how exclusive of a place I was at - the dining chairs in the bathroom cleared it up real quick.

We got lucky a few years ago were invited by a neighbor who are members. He only asked that we pay the dining fee, which was around $330 and included admission to Disneyland. We had to go to a guest services window by the ticket booths, they checked the “list,” we were then given tickets to get into the park and had to arrive at the club 33 door at our reservation time. There is a dress code. Our meal was lunch. There were various stations of food such as a cold bar and a dessert bar, and then the main menu. We were given an unlimited amount of time to wander around and take photos, and there were Club 33 souvenirs to buy, which we did. I also took home a big stack of Club 33 beverage napkins (shhh). This was in 2010. I’m kind of sad they remodeled it - part of the intrigue of it was all the nostalgia inside. Also, now the inviting member has to be with their guests. When we went that wasn’t the case. We didn’t want to leave because we knew we’d likely never be back. It was an amazing experience and worth every penny just to have been there once.

When I was about 3, my parents were allowed with thier company into Club 33. Apparently I went in as well!! I was a very well behaved tot and I wish I could remember the experience! I am still kinda boggled they let in such a young kiddo. One day I might return 💔

I really enjoyed this. I got to visit the club when I was younger and we had a fantastic buffet during lunch, that featured a smoked salmon. I don’t remember what the second meal was. The bathrooms were cool and we got to sit on a balcony for the Fantasmic show

Yesterworld, Walt and Lilly purchased an antique table that could seat 24 people with 24 antique " tub" chairs for Club 33, when plan's were still being finalised. After Walt's passing these item's were not used. When at W.D.W. the Empress Lilly steamboat was to open at the Disney Village. The table and chair's were shipped to grace the Empress Lounge ( a club 33 sort of lounge ) on the top floor of the boat. When Paddlefish took over the table and chair's were retired ? My parents and I took the Walk In Walt's Footsteps tour back in 2014 and one of the stops was inside the lobby of Club 33. They even brought the elevator down for those on the tour to take photos in, which was fun.

John Hench and Bill Martin said numerous times that it was the address and that's it. At the time, it was very fashionable to name restaurants after their address. The address-requirement for the liquor license is demonstrable BS for 2 reasons: First, Disneyland Park has always had a single liquor license issued by Orange County that covers the entire park. Address: 1313 S. Harbor Blvd. Special after-hours parties have served and sold liquor all over the park throughout Disneyland's history. This is the license used by Club 33. Second, the "streets" and corresponding addresses of New Orleans Square are fake and not recognized by the City of Anaheim, so a liquor license could not be assigned to such an address since it does not exist.

My stepmom had a friend who was a Club 33 member. He used to host a brunch at least once a year, and she and my dad went to it several times. Apparently Disney stopped letting private members have such large parties - at least that's the reason given for the member not hosting those big brunches, so my dad hasn't been back in many years. He said the food was very good, but not worth $25K.

Pretty sure they lampshaded it with the gag at the begining. Obviously there aren't 33 horses of the apocolypse, but there are 33 degrees to freemasonry which is commonly cited as evidence that you had to be a mason (or in the illuminati) to go to the club. Its a little weird that they didn't mention it in passing but considering its one of the most well known "secret" locations in the world I don't think the illuminati would have had their best parties there.

We went to Disneyland in January before all the craziness hit and everything shut down. We did the Princess Breakfast for my daughter and let me say for the price, we might as well have been paying for a pass to get into Club 33. Wow! The credit card statement! I'm glad we did it and my daughter has some wonderful memories. I'm also a little glad we won't have to do that again when we go back some day.

I actually did go to club 33 when i was like 8 since my aunts work had a membership and she was able to go through them (though I’ve heard in recent years they’ve changed that policy). As a kid it was neat but i also remember not liking the food 😂

I so agree, I don't drink and I have loved Disney since I was little., long time as I was born when they opened the Park in 1955. I used to take my kids often, sometimes several times a year as I worked for Xerox as a technician, I got discount tickets for Xerox night which was so awesome because they would close the park to the public and it was not crowded. So many wonderful memories, I wished I worked for Disney as I loved Walt, God Bless him!

Many years ago my Dickens Fair friends and I went for post Fair R&R to Disneyland. They had an acquaintance who was one of the "Alices". Her dad was a mucky muck in some big corporation. She got us into Club 33 and we enjoyed it a lot. We ordered a bottle of very good California red and a really good dinner. Finding the entrance was "interesting". We had to have some sort of code to let us in. The lift was gorgeous, wrought iron. I was really impressed with the ladies bathroom. It was 19th century & beautifully furnished. Out the windows was a view of the steamboat. You really felt like you were in 19th century Paris. The food was prepared by the Blue Bayou kitchen and therefore nothing special. A truly enjoyable experience. Never repeated.
